Content Marketing Tips: How to Earn High-Quality Links for Your Content

Do you want to boost your page’s weight on the search engines so that it ranks more highly? One of the best ways to do so is to have other high-quality websites link in your direction. The more serious sites link your way; the more authority you’re seen as having. So far I’m probably not telling you anything you didn’t know already.

The big question most people have is ‘how’. How do I get other high-quality websites to link to me? That’s what we’re going to explore the rest of this article.

Readability first

The internet is full of mediocre content and fluff. If you add to that by simply repeating what everybody else is saying, then you’re never going to actually get the attention of some of the high-quality sites. Instead, you have to do things differently. You have to create articles that add something new and valuable.

Primarily, this means that you write something that scores high on readability. Because if it isn’t written in a way that people can easily read what you’ve written, they will find something else to do. That’s the problem with the internet. It takes people all of five seconds to find somebody else’s opinion about the same thing, written more clearly and more engagingly than whatever you wrote. That’s true even for the best writers.

If you’re not sure how readable your content is, use something like the Hemingway app or Grammarly. Of course, if you want that human touch you can also turn away from the algorithms and find the best website for essay writing, though then you will have to pay, of course.

High quality and unique content

The second step is to add something unique and with actual value. Generally, this means going more in-depth than most fluff pieces do and supporting your position with other people’s and statistics.

Yes, there are people out there who can state things and are accepted as authority. The thing is if you’re still looking for high-quality sites to link to your chances are you’re not seen as one of those people yet. What’s more, an argument from authority isn’t generally considered a very strong one – at least in scientific circles. So back up your claims. In this way, you won’t just end up preaching to the choir but might even have a chance of convincing your critics.

If you’re struggling to write unique content, then the best advice I can give you is to find new angles on old ideas. It also helps if you find a good way to disagree with some of the mainstays in the field. Sure, they mainstays won’t like it – but if your arguments are high quality then other people will consider them. More importantly, when recapping the argument, they’ll refer you. And that means links!

Make them aware you’re out there

Creating the quality is only half the battle – and in truth, it’s often the easier half. You see, there is so much content on the internet and your stuff will initially rank so low that if you never take the time to make people aware you’re out there, they never will be.

For that reason, the first thing you need to do is find websites that might be interested in what you’ve written, and then write them! Reach out, tell them why you think the content you’ve created is relevant to them, and include a link. Sure, they might not all bite, but if a few do, then you’re going to have a few more links to the article you’re interested in sharing.

The second step is to find groups of Facebook and LinkedIn that are relevant to what you’re doing and sharing your content there. If it actually adds value, then often it can spread far and wide beyond such groups and get in front of people who have websites.

Note, if you push your content in groups like this and you’re noticing it isn’t getting shared beyond them, then that means it isn’t interesting to them, or even if the subject is, the material you’ve written isn’t unique and high-quality enough for them to do so. There are two approaches you can use in this case:

  1. Find new groups and try again.
  2. If that still doesn’t work, then it’s probably time to write new articles and try again.

Socialize

Online Marketing - Social Media

Though we might think the internet is about information, often on websites it’s about relationships. Sure, we link to sites because they’ve got high-quality information. But the only reason we find out they have that high-quality stuff is that we know about them and they keep popping up on our radar.

When you’re just starting out with the link building, it’s, therefore, a good idea to reach out to high-quality websites and get to know the people who are behind it. They can offer you valuable tips and if you do manage to do things well, they’ll often share or link to your stuff because after you’ve built a relationship with them they feel invested (known as the Ben Franklin effect).

So just keep reaching out until you find a few people you can connect with. If you’re lucky, they might not just link to you from their site but also suggest other people you can approach.

Content Marketing Tips: How to Earn High-Quality Links for Your Content - conclusion

Building links can initially be a bit of a slow process. The good news is that once you do start to rank, people will be far more likely to find you, at which point new links will start to appear without you having to work for them.

At that point, you’ll be in a positive spiral and on your way upward. It’s just a matter of kicking your company into it that will be hard to do. But keep working at it. For though initially you might despair, eventually you’ll get your finger on the pulse and start writing articles that people will notice. From there it will all work out.
