Documentation | RSCatchy Joomla Extension

RSCatchy is a Joomla Module works natively in Joomla 1.5.x environment. This is a Joomla extension specially developed for Joomla version 1.5.x. If you want to display images as an automatic slideshow that can also be explicitly played or paused by the user, then this module is for you. It rotates and displays an image by fading it into view over the previous one, with navigation controls that pop up when the mouse rolls over the gallery. This is a free extension. The features are:

  • Customizable width and height of the slideshow.
  • Customizable border.
  • Customizable Slide Duration and Transition time.
  • Customizable Image Link and Description.
  • Slideshow can display all images from a folder. Or if you wish you can able to set individual images also.

How To Configure and Use the Module (Steps):

  1. Install this Module.
  2. Now go to “Extensions” => “Module Manager”
  3. Edit/Add RS-Catchy Module and publish it after configuring the module using the following steps listed below:
    • Module Class Suffix: A suffix to be applied to the CSS class of the Module. This allows for individual Module styling.
    • Insert JQuery File: By default this is ‘YES’. That means the module will add the required jquery file. But if you think the jQuery is already inserted in your website (by your template or by any other component/module/plugin) then you can set it to ‘NO’ so it will prevent the double insertion of the same file.
    • Image Width: Width of the images of your slideshow in pixel. Default value is 600.
    • Image Height: Height of the images of your slideshow in pixel. Default value is 300.
    • Border Thickness: Module Border Thickness. Default value is 5.
    • Border Style: Module Border Style. You have 3 option to choose: “solid”, “dashed” or “dotted”. Default value is “solid”.
    • Border Color: Module Border Color in Hex-code, including #. Default value is “#CCCCCC”.
      Special Note: The entire module dimention (width and height) is depends on the image dimention and the border thickness. Example: Say you have images with dimention of 600X300, and you specify the border thickness is to 10 pixel. Then the entire module width will be {600+(10×2)} = 620 pixel. And the height will be {300+(10×2)} = 320 pixel. So please adjust your module accordingly.
    • Style of Image Description Text: Here you can add css style of Image Description Text. Default value is: “text-align: left; padding: 2px;”
    • Autoplay: Choose slideshow starts playing automatically or not. Default value is “YES”.
    • Slide Duration in Second: How many second one image will display before sliding to the next image. Default value is “4”.
    • Number of Loop: How many times the images will loop? Default value is “5”.
    • Transition Time: Transition time from one slide to next slide. Enter value in second. Default value is “1”.
    • Image Configuration:Choose how you wish to configure the image display. The first one (BASIC) is easy to configure. For advanced users the second option (ADVANCED) will give much more advanced configurable options.
        1. Image Folder: Specify the path of image folder (Example: images/stories/slideshow/). Enter the relative path as shown in example.
        2. Link to images: If you wish to redirect the visitors to a particular url after clicking the images, then please specify the url here. (Example:
        3. Open link in: Choose your option to open the link in the same window or in a new window.
        1. Image(s) Path: Specify the relative path of all your images, within {}. Do not add absolute path. Only add relative path. Example: {images/stories/slideshow/image1.jpg} {images/stories/slideshow/image2.jpg} {images/stories/slideshow/image3.jpg}
        2. Links to images: Specify the urls that will link your images, within {}. Example: {} {} {}
        3. Open link in: Open the links in the same window or in a new window, within {}. Use from these 2 options: ‘_blank’ or ‘_self’. ‘_blank’ is to open the link in a new window. ‘_self’ is to open the link in same window. Example: {_self} {_self} {_blank}
        4. Image Description: Description of the Images, within {}. Example: {Description Text 1} {Description Text 2} {Description Text 3}

  1. Hi,

    I installed RS-Catchy in my Joomla 1.5.x. But i cannot see an option for “pause and play” in the module configuration. Please let me know how can i do the same ?

  2. Hello,
    I was wondering if it was possible to create a slideshow using RS Catchy that displays pictures of various sizes — demos only show same-dimension photos.
    Thanks for the help!

    • Hi,

      Please check the following points, hopefully you will get your answer:

      1. RS-Catchy is a module of fixed dimension. That means you need to set the width and height of the module.

      2. As the module height and width is fixed, if you use images with same height and width, the module will look best. However you can use any size of images, but it is recommended to use images with same dimensional ratio.

      3. If you use images of different size, then in some cases may be some images will not look good. So at first you need to test your own that your module is looking good or not.
