Apple’s anticipated foldable iPhone has transitioned from mere speculation to imminent reality. Recent disclosures hint at an exceptionally slender design with a projected launch later this year.
Although the tech giant has yet to authenticate any specifics, various reports imply that the device, often dubbed the “iPhone Fold” or “iPhone Ultra,” may represent the most significant hardware transformation for Apple in years.
A report from Forbes unveils dummy prototypes of the foldable iPhone that have emerged online, providing an initial glimpse into its aesthetic.
Max Tech, a YouTube channel, features a video showcasing these prototypes, which are purported to bear a close resemblance to Apple’s forthcoming hardware—echoing how prior dummy units correctly foretold the iPhone 17 series.
A Passport-Shaped Device Designed for Portability
The leaked prototypes reveal a book-style foldable format that mirrors a passport more than a traditional smartphone.
According to Vadim Yuryev of Max Tech, the device reportedly measures approximately 11mm when folded and a mere 5.5mm when opened, exclusive of the camera protrusion. If accurate, this would make either half of the device slimmer than numerous current iPhones.
Moreover, Digital Trends, referencing insider yeux1122, suggests that the foldable phone could be even more svelte, potentially around 9.23mm when folded. However, the camera assembly is anticipated to add discernible thickness, potentially inflating the dimensions to nearly 13mm in certain segments.
Beyond mere size, the leaks insinuate the presence of a dual-lens rear camera, a substantial outer display, and a tablet-like inner screen that may vie with compact devices when fully extended.
Preliminary reports also indicate that Apple may maintain features like a dedicated camera control button despite the device’s ultra-thin profile.
Product Launch Potentially Linked to Leadership Transition
Curiously, the projected timeline for the foldable iPhone’s unveiling may coincide with a pivotal leadership change at Apple. As highlighted in Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter from Bloomberg, plans are afoot for the incoming CEO, John Ternus, to spearhead the device’s introduction.
This coincides with Tim Cook’s impending transition to executive chairman later this year. Consequently, the foldable iPhone could emerge as a hallmark product marking the dawn of Apple’s new leadership paradigm.
Anticipating Features
While specifications are yet to be confirmed, speculation points towards a 5.5-inch exterior display coupled with a more expansive 7.8-inch interior screen, potentially enriched by iPad-like multitasking capabilities. The price point is expected to surpass $2,000, firmly positioning it within the ultra-premium category.

If these rumors prove accurate, Apple’s inaugural foldable device could debut as early as September 2026, radically redefining the company’s product portfolio and laying the groundwork for an innovative decade ahead.
