Cambodia Strives to Enhance Digital Trade Landscape

Cambodia is markedly amplifying its initiatives to bolster digital trade, with projections indicating a substantial increase in e-commerce revenue, anticipated to surge from approximately $1.1 billion in 2025 to $1.8 billion by 2029.

During the inauguration of the third Cambodia Digital Trade Forum and Online Expo held in Phnom Penh on September 11, Commerce Minister Cham Nimul delineated the government’s strategic priorities.

This three-day forum, scheduled from September 11 to 13, aims to catalyze the development of Cambodia’s digital trade ecosystem as the nation looks towards 2030.

The forum convenes a diverse audience, including government officials, development partners, private sector players, entrepreneurs, and international stakeholders, all united to explore the myriad opportunities and challenges that confront the nation’s digital economy.

Nimul articulated the government’s aspiration to cultivate a digital trade environment characterized by trust, efficiency, and inclusivity.

This includes enhancing productivity, market access, and competitiveness, particularly targeting micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), rural enterprises, and women-led ventures.

The minister emphasized that robust digital infrastructure and a well-adapted regulatory framework are vital for fostering the ongoing evolution of e-commerce and digital trade.

The Ministry of Commerce is actively formulating a Cambodia Trade Policy Framework aimed at 2030, alongside a Digital Trade Strategy designated for 2025-2030.

Additionally, collaboration with the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications is underway to establish regulations governing e-commerce intermediaries and service providers.

The government also intends to enhance CambodiaTrade.com, which is projected to afford local businesses improved access to digital markets and enable them to connect with prospective customers beyond Cambodian borders.

Inaugurated in 2024, the Cambodia Digital Trade Forum became an independent event in 2025.
