Apple Introduces Redesigned iPad Mini Featuring OLED Display

On Monday, Apple revealed its newly revamped iPad mini, showcasing an array of enhancements, including an OLED display, a water-resistant architecture, and a more powerful processor, thereby inaugurating a week filled with product unveilings.

The tablet is priced at $699 (₹82,900 in India). It boasts an 8.5-inch OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display, which offers enhanced color depth with richer blacks, vivid whites, and superior contrast ratios.

In a bid to optimize user experience, Apple has expanded the display dimension from the previous 8.3 inches by minimizing the bezels surrounding the screen.

The revamped iPad mini also features an innovative “Acoustic Display” sound system that integrates the speakers beneath the display, making it the inaugural iPad to earn an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance.

Further advancements render the new iPad mini 14% thinner and 13% lighter than its predecessor. Apple has strategically repositioned the front-facing camera to enhance the quality of FaceTime calls and video conferencing.

At the core of this iteration lies the A20 Pro chip, a significant upgrade from the A17 Pro processor found in the earlier iPad mini, which commenced retail at $599.

It will be available in both standard and matte nano-texture display variants, alongside storage capacities ranging from 128 to 512 gigabytes.

When fully equipped with the highest storage option, an etched matte display, and cellular connectivity, the tablet’s price can escalate to as much as $1,249.

Additionally, Apple has enriched the new model with its N1 networking chip, facilitating Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 capabilities within the iPad mini. Cellular configurations incorporate Apple’s proprietary C2 modem.

This latest iPad mini heralds the commencement of a series of late-October product introductions. This week, Apple has plans to unveil a new iMac and a 14-inch MacBook Pro equipped with the M6 chip, culminating in the debut of its first touch-screen MacBook Pro.

Pre-orders for the new iPad mini will begin on Wednesday, with sales set to commence on November 6. The device is available in “midnight” and “starlight” color options.

The A20 Pro chip in the iPad mini offers two configurations: the 128- and 256-gigabyte models incorporate five main processing cores, while the high-end variant features six.

Both configurations utilize seven graphics cores, with the premium option also boasting a dual 16-core Neural Engine designed for advanced artificial intelligence processing.

Apple has scheduled a launch event on Wednesday in Los Angeles, where journalists and content creators will have the opportunity to engage with the new devices firsthand.

This marks the culmination of an active year for Apple, following last Friday’s introduction of the iPhone Duo, the company’s inaugural foldable smartphone.

Three foldable smartphones with large touchscreens and metallic edges are displayed on a gray surface, two partially open and one fully flat.

Bloomberg News initially reported on the upcoming iPad mini last year. The company is also developing a new entry-level iPad, an OLED iPad Air, and an updated iPad Pro, all slated for release in the first half of the coming year.
