BlackBerry Elevates Fiscal Projections Amid Robust Q2 Performance
Canadian tech stalwart BlackBerry (BB) has revised its financial forecast upwards following a favorable fiscal second-quarter performance, characterized by impressive year-over-year growth in its software solutions division.
The once-prominent player in the smartphone arena now anticipates adjusted earnings per share (EPS) between $0.19 to $0.22 for the fiscal year 2027, marking an increase from its earlier estimate of $0.16 to $0.20.
Furthermore, revenue expectations have been updated to a range of $616 million to $636 million, up from the previous guideline of $594 million to $621 million.
Analysts surveyed by FactSet project a non-GAAP EPS of $0.19 alongside sales totaling approximately $610.1 million.
For the quarter ending in August, BlackBerry’s adjusted EPS surged to $0.07, a notable rise from $0.04 reported during the same quarter last year. Four analysts, tracking closely with FactSet, had predicted no change in these numbers.
The company experienced a remarkable revenue increase of 26%, amounting to $163.3 million, surpassing the $141.8 million consensus forecasted by analysts.
Revenue from the QNX division, which specializes in software solutions across various industries, saw a robust increase of 27%, reaching $80.3 million.
This expansion was attributed to the strengths observed within BlackBerry’s core automotive sector, according to Chief Executive John Giamatteo.
Additionally, vehicle platform innovator Coretura has selected Alloy Kore to power its next-generation commercial vehicle software platform.
This collaboration, jointly developed by Vector and QNX, is expected to enhance BlackBerry’s QNX royalty backlog by over $100 million.
RBC Capital Markets projected that BlackBerry would outperform quarterly revenue expectations, asserting that investor sentiment hinges on the timing of Alloy Kore’s design victories and the evolving landscape of physical artificial intelligence, along with the embedded market for QNX.
Anticipating fiscal 2027, BlackBerry forecasts QNX revenue will fall between $315 million and $325 million, an increase from a prior outlook of $295 million to $312 million.
Chief Financial Officer Tim Foote remarked, “This enhanced outlook underscores the continued strength and trajectory we are observing within the QNX business, while also maintaining necessary flexibility to accommodate typical quarter-to-quarter variations,” as noted during the earnings call recorded by FactSet.
The secure communications sector registered $60.9 million in revenue during the second quarter, reflecting a modest annual growth of 2%.
However, recent geopolitical tensions, notably trade disputes between the United States and Canada, are complicating the landscape for secure communications, an area in which BlackBerry has a significant footprint with the federal government.
Foote elaborated that the U.S. is enforcing bans on certain Canadian imports, including dairy and automotive products. In response, Canada announced retaliatory tariffs on approximately $20 billion worth of American goods.
“While we have yet to observe any significant implications arising from these developments, nor any deceleration in pipeline generation outside North America, we believe it prudent to exercise caution as we progress into the second half,” Foote asserted during the analyst call.
For the current quarter, BlackBerry projects total revenue between $143 million and $154 million, with four analysts forecasting an average of $147.6 million.
The expected adjusted EPS ranges from $0.04 to $0.05, compared to the analysts’ expectation of $0.05.

Also in the cybersecurity sphere, Palo Alto Networks (PANW) has reported fiscal fourth-quarter results that surpassed market anticipations, while CrowdStrike (CRWD) updated its outlook for net new annual recurring revenue due to rising demands for cybersecurity solutions addressing AI-related risks.
