Ministry of Tourism Enters Agreement with Google India
NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, the Ministry of Tourism formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Google India aimed at advancing the digital promotion of India’s tourism hotspots.
This initiative will employ cutting-edge digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and data-driven insights to enhance capacity building.
The MoU was officially exchanged in the presence of Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, in New Delhi.
This agreement lays the groundwork for a collaborative framework between the ministry and Google India, focusing on essential domains such as digital tourism promotion, knowledge sharing, capacity enhancement, and the integration of emerging technologies to enrich visitor engagement.
The partnership intends to harness Google’s extensive capabilities across its digital ecosystem to bolster the visibility of India’s tourist attractions, experiences, and cultural heritage for both domestic and international visitors.
Notably, the collaboration is characterized as non-commercial, non-binding, and non-exclusive, bearing no financial impact on either party.
The gathering included dignitaries such as Secretary (Tourism) Bhuvnesh Kumar, Additional Secretary and Director General (Tourism) Suman Billa, along with other high-ranking officials.
During the event, Shekhawat emphasized, “Digital technologies possess the capacity to craft immersive experiences that spotlight the magnificence of India’s cultural sites to a global audience.
By leveraging these avant-garde digital tools, we can revolutionize how travelers discover, experience, and interact with India’s extensive cultural and natural heritage.
He further articulated that this collaboration embodies the ministry’s dedication to adopting innovative, technology-driven methodologies for tourism promotion as part of the Incredible India initiative.
Shekhawat expressed optimism that this partnership will enhance India’s global tourism footprint, broaden digital outreach, and position the nation as a contemporary, accessible, and competitively appealing travel destination.
As an integral component of this collaboration, Google’s insights into global travel trends, traveler behavior, and digital engagement patterns will be utilized to formulate evidence-based tourism promotion strategies.
The agreement also anticipates the implementation of training and capacity-building initiatives for ministry personnel, focusing on digital marketing tools, campaign optimization, content creation, and emerging technologies—particularly artificial intelligence—to facilitate more targeted, effective, and measurable outreach.

Officials from the ministry conveyed, “Both the ministry and Google India reinforced their mutual commitment to utilizing technology and innovation to enrich India’s tourism ecosystem and establish the country as a favored global travel destination.”
