Over 90,000 Positions Rendered Obsolete by AI
With the inexorable ascent of artificial intelligence (AI), an alarming number of job roles are becoming obsolete, supplanted by these advanced systems.
Data curated by The Alliance for Secure AI—an organization dedicated to enlightening the public about the ramifications of AI—indicates that AI-related layoffs have escalated to a staggering 90,450 since the dawn of 2025, as corporations increasingly entrust machines with a broader array of responsibilities.
This data encompasses layoff announcements from notable companies, including Atlassian, Amazon, Morgan Stanley, Crypto.com, and Block, capturing instances where AI is explicitly acknowledged or deemed a significant contributor to job losses, with a temporal scope commencing January 1, 2025.
While certain reports unequivocally attribute job cuts to AI, the institution also includes announcements where AI is cited among various contributory factors impacting workforce reductions.
Brendan Steinhauser, CEO of The Alliance for Secure AI, has emphasized that this data, part of a newly launched dashboard, serves as both a cautionary tale and a clarion call for proactive measures to safeguard employment in an impending era dominated by AI replacement.
Steinhauser underscored the urgency of addressing this dilemma, suggesting that lawmakers remain woefully unaware of the impending challenges.
“Politicians are not considering with the seriousness warranted how AI threatens to erode our nation’s labor force. Jobs, spanning both blue and white-collar sectors, are succumbing to AI right before our very eyes.”
“We remain bereft of effective solutions to guarantee that Americans can sustain their livelihoods amidst the evolution of advanced AI,” Steinhauser concluded.
Consequently, these figures are anticipated to escalate in the near future. Dario Amodei, co-founder of Anthropic, has forewarned of an impending labor upheaval, predicting that AI could obliterate half of all entry-level white-collar jobs within the next five years.
An MIT study unveiled in November posits that over 11% of the U.S. labor market could be supplanted by AI, potentially eradicating more than $1 trillion in wages across white-collar domains such as finance, healthcare, and professional services.
