Vir Das Alleges Zepto Delivered Counterfeit Apple Watch
Bollywood comedian and actor Vir Das recently took to social media to reveal his disillusionment with a product he alleged to be a ‘China copy’ of an Apple Watch, delivered by the quick-commerce service Zepto.
The incident, which has gained significant traction online, raises pertinent questions regarding the authenticity of goods available through such platforms.
Das reported that he spent approximately INR 50,000 for the smartwatch, only to receive an item that glaringly lacked legitimate Apple branding.
Vir Das’s Encounter with a Fake Apple Watch
On June 15, 2026, Das shared a video on his official X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram accounts, showcasing the unboxing of the purported counterfeit device.
In the footage, he enumerated several discrepancies that led him to suspect the item was not an authentic Apple Watch.
He noted that the packaging featured the line “Designed by Watch in China,” rather than the iconic Apple logo.
Additionally, while the outer box labeled the watch as “Series 11,” the internal packaging mistakenly referred to it as “Series 9.”
The accompanying charger bore no Apple markings, and the watch itself was labeled “Smart Watch Series 11” with “Made in China” inscribed prominently.
Das Questions Zepto’s Integrity
Okay. Am I wrong, do all apple watches look like this or is @ZeptoNow @zeptocares being shady with china copies? By the way their customer device agent on the phone said there’s nothing they could do. Full scam. We needed one quick for a shoot. They charged us 50k. pic.twitter.com/2YiOx4qMYB

In his post, Das expressed palpable frustration, casting doubt on the authenticity of Zepto’s products. He queried, “Am I wrong, do all Apple Watches look like this or is @ZeptoNow @zeptocares being shady with China copies?”
His attempt to resolve the issue through customer support allegedly yielded no constructive feedback, as a representative reportedly told him there was “nothing they could do.”
Zepto Responds to the Allegations
The comedian’s outcry quickly captured public interest, prompting Zepto to address the matter on the same day.
The official customer support account, @zeptocares, responded to his concerns, stating, “Hey, this isn’t the experience we aim to deliver, and I’d like to get this sorted for you. Could you please share your order details and contact number via DM? Once we have that, we’ll look into it right away.”
In a more comprehensive statement, Zepto confirmed the initiation of standard procedures, which included arranging for a reverse pickup of the product to conduct a thorough investigation in collaboration with their brand partners.

They also reminded users about their protocol for high-value item deliveries, highlighting that customers should receive an OTP and are advised to inspect the package meticulously before confirming receipt.
This incident ignited robust discussions online, with numerous users sharing their personal experiences of allegedly receiving counterfeit products or enduring subpar customer service from various quick-commerce entities.
