In preparation for a nationwide rollout, the Department of Telecommunications is rigorously testing the operational metrics of the Cell Broadcast (CB) alert system.
During this testing phase, individuals may receive “test messages” in English, Hindi, and various regional languages, provided Cell Broadcast alerts are activated.
The system will dispatch multiple alerts to enhance the assessment of performance across different mobile networks.
This test reportedly encompasses the Delhi-NCR region and the capitals of all states and Union Territories, with the exception of border territories and states preparing for elections, as reported by The Hindu.
The alert, labeled ‘Extremely Severe Alerts,’ was disseminated by NDMA with a message stating, “India launches Cell Broadcast using indigenous technology, for immediate disaster alerting services to its citizenry.

This alert system is powered by SACHET, a framework developed by the Centre for Development of Telematics.

Emergency Alert on Phones Today: Functionality of the Emergency Alert System
This system, developed by the Centre for Development of Telematics, utilizes SACHET to deliver emergency alerts to all mobile devices within a specified geographical area.
Notably, the system incorporates silent mode and do-not-disturb settings, ensuring individuals receive critical notifications without disruption.
Test messages will only be sent to devices that have enabled Cell Broadcast test alerts. Users can manage these settings by navigating to Settings → Safety and Emergency → Wireless Emergency Alerts → Test Alerts on their devices.
In the coming days, participants can expect to receive several test messages as part of this trial, further ensuring that the system functions optimally across diverse mobile networks.
