Message from Sundar Pichai
We have made remarkable strides in delivering our comprehensive AI stack. Our access to exceptional talent, unparalleled computing power, and products that democratize AI is unrivaled in the industry.
The impressive growth reflected in our earnings across various sectors—Search, YouTube, and Cloud—is a testament to this.
With high demand for our Gemini models among developers and enterprises, the Gemini application has achieved over 950 million monthly users.
Simultaneously, our AI research continues to spearhead pioneering advancements, including recent breakthroughs in Gemini Robotics.
It is imperative that we expedite this momentum while maintaining our focus on the vanguard of AI. Moreover, there has never been a more crucial juncture to sculpt the future of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and the sciences.
Today, Demis, Koray, and I are announcing several changes within our Google DeepMind teams aimed at furthering these objectives.
AGI and Science: Demis has characterized our position as being at the base of the singularity, devoting significant time to external engagements.
After extensive discussions, we have defined a role that will allow him to concentrate fully on actively shaping the future of AGI—an endeavor critically important for both Alphabet and humanity at large.
Henceforth, Demis will assume the roles of Chair of Google DeepMind and Chief Scientist of Alphabet, while also maintaining leadership of Isomorphic Labs.
He will remain integrally involved with Koray, Josh, and our DeepMind teams, offering guidance on model development and research initiatives.
I am immensely thrilled for Demis; this work epitomizes his vocation and passion. Below, you can find Demis’s message to the Google DeepMind team.
Google DeepMind: We find ourselves in a phase of robust momentum: Flash has generated significant interest, our Cyber model is operational, and our Gemma models have achieved over 900 million downloads.
We are resolute in our commitment to remain at the forefront of innovation, honing the areas that require enhancement.
I eagerly anticipate our forthcoming model launches and the advancements we are witnessing. It is vital that we continue to operate swiftly and purposefully.
Koray, our current Chief Technology Officer and Chief AI Architect of Google DeepMind, will ascend to the role of Senior Vice President of Google DeepMind, reporting directly to me.
His responsibilities will encompass overseeing the development of Gemini models, leading Frontier AI research, and managing the Gemini app and developer teams.
Koray has been with DeepMind since its inception, and over his 13-year tenure, he has established our deep learning team and pioneered breakthroughs such as WaveNet and DQN. I am confident in his ability to drive Google DeepMind into this new phase.
Lastly, after an extraordinary 27 years, Jeff Dean is poised to embark on a new chapter, and we wholeheartedly support him in this transition.
Jeff, along with Google Senior Fellow Sanjay Ghemawat, is launching an independent public benefit corporation aimed at accelerating advancements in machine learning, science, and engineering.
Both Jeff and Sanjay have been instrumental in pioneering significant technological transitions, from our early search infrastructure to the neural networks that defined the modern AI landscape.
On a personal note, it has been a privilege collaborating with Jeff and Sanjay, and I extend my best wishes to them.

We look forward to continuing our partnership with them as foundational investors and Cloud collaborators, as well as working together on a research framework for machine learning systems and related infrastructure innovations.
We stand at a thrilling juncture brimming with potential. With today’s strategic changes, we will sustain our forward momentum. Onwards!
