Turo Partners with Tesla to Highlight FSD-Equipped Rentals
Car rental behemoth Turo is poised to enhance its marketplace by delineating which Tesla vehicles are equipped with the company’s cutting-edge Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, a strategic collaboration potentially accelerating the adoption of advanced driving technologies.
Eligible Turo “hosts” who rent their vehicles on the platform will be granted a complimentary one-month trial of FSD.
Turo is engaging directly with Tesla to leverage the automaker’s Application Programming Interface (API) for the purpose of authenticating which vehicles possess the FSD feature.
This announcement surfaces shortly after Tesla disclosed renewed statistics indicating a significant uptick in users opting for the FSD software, which, while capable of executing a plethora of driving tasks, necessitates human oversight.
Recently, Tesla reported that approximately 1.7 million customers globally have subscribed to FSD, against a backdrop of over 10 million vehicles manufactured and sold thus far.
Notably, more than 75% of customers accepting delivery of a vehicle in North America during the third quarter opted for an FSD subscription—a substantial increase of around 20% compared to the previous quarter, albeit in the context of declining sales within the U.S. market.
Over the previous year, Tesla has been refurbishing numerous showrooms to accentuate FSD as a pivotal selling proposition. In a recent statement, CEO Elon Musk asserted that this initiative is yielding positive results.
“Consumers are acquiring FSD in conjunction with vehicle purchases, not vice versa,” Musk articulated.
“Clients are now arriving and inquiring: ‘Can we experience an FSD drive?’ They’re not requesting specific models like the Model 3, Model Y, or Cybertruck,” remarked Tesla’s Chief Financial Officer, Vaibhav Taneja, during the earnings call last week.
For Turo, the integration of FSD rentals presents an opportunity to amplify its offerings surrounding some of the most frequently rented vehicles.
The company noted that Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y rank as the third and fourth most sought-after vehicles on its platform this year.
“This integration further maximizes earning potential for hosts as interest in autonomous technology escalates,” Turo affirmed.
“This unprecedented partnership with Tesla exemplifies Turo’s commitment to redefining car rental and access paradigms,” said Turo CEO Andre Haddad in a statement.
“Historically, travelers have had restricted opportunities to engage with driver-assistance technology; however, demand is evident”.
Our research indicates that 55% of Americans express interest in driverless technology for travel, rising to 71% among Gen Z.
Turo’s marketplace model is uniquely equipped to bridge the chasm between consumer interest and pragmatic access.
Customers renting FSD-enabled Teslas through Turo will encounter explicit cautionary instructions mandating that drivers maintain vigilance over the software and be poised to assume control at a moment’s notice.
Additionally, drivers will have the opportunity to access an instructional tutorial developed by Tesla.

“When activated, your vehicle will navigate almost anywhere with your sustained supervision, requiring minimal intervention,” a excerpt from the Turo app states.
The vehicle listings will also permit owners to market their automobiles as “Self-Driving,” as illustrated in a supplementary screenshot shared by Turo.
