Pegatron, a key supplier to Apple, has unveiled a significant deviation from established protocol regarding the iPhone 18’s release.
Contrary to expectations, the standard iPhone 18 will not debut in September 2026 alongside its Pro counterparts. Instead, this model is slated for introduction in the first quarter of 2027.
As reported by Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, Pegatron revealed during its Q2 2026 earnings conference call on August 12 that a major client will alter its conventional smartphone shipping schedule.
This development serves as the inaugural confirmation at the supply-chain level of Apple’s dual-launch strategy, a prospect that analysts like Ming-Chi Kuo have been speculating about for several months.
This new strategy represents a considerable departure from Apple’s historic launch practices. Since the release of the iPhone 4S in 2011, every new iPhone model has traditionally launched in tandem with Pro and Pro Max variants each September.
However, the bifurcation of this launch framework means that September 2026 will feature only the premium models: the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, along with the anticipated introduction of the first foldable iPhone, likely priced over $2,000.
The standard iPhone 18 and an updated iteration known as the iPhone 18e are expected to follow suit around March 2027, alongside a potential second-generation iPhone Air.
Strategic Motivations Behind the Shift
