Methodology Behind the Ranking

The ranking was formulated by amalgamating data on occupational tasks from O*NET, alongside Claude’s usage statistics and prior assessments of tasks amenable to automation by advanced language models.

Greater emphasis was placed on tasks that are directly automatable compared to those where AI merely assists human workers.

Anthropic asserts that actual AI deployment remains significantly below what the technology is capable of achieving theoretically.

Barriers such as regulatory frameworks, software limitations, and necessary human oversight inherently impede rapid implementation.

The study further indicates that sectors with heightened exposure to AI are anticipated to experience slower growth rates up to 2034, as projected by the U.S.

Bureau of Labor Statistics. Workers in these vulnerable roles tend to be older, more educated, predominantly female, and often command higher salaries.

In contrast, occupations characterized by minimal AI exposure typically involve more physical labor. Roles such as cooks, bartenders, lifeguards, groundskeepers, and motorcycle mechanics appear to be largely insulated from AI’s encroachment.

Regarding the labor market dynamics, researchers report that since late 2022, no significant uptick in unemployment has been observed among workers in highly exposed positions.

However, data indicates a potential deceleration in hiring practices for individuals aged 22 to 25 in roles heavily influenced by AI.
