India’s Technology Workforce: A Catalyst for Global Developer Community by 2030
Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, has highlighted the burgeoning technology workforce in India as a prospective foundation for establishing the world’s largest developer community by the year 2030.
His statements arose during discussions held in Seattle, wherein Indian-American tech executives deliberated on fortifying collaboration between India and the United States across pivotal sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, quantum computing, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing.
During the event, which was graced by Nadella as a distinguished guest at a forum organized by the Indian government, more than 40 Indian-origin executives and technological leaders congregated to deliberate on enhancing synergies between the diaspora’s expertise and India’s aspirations in the realm of artificial intelligence and other strategic technologies.
Commending the “ingenuity of India’s human capital,” Nadella expressed Microsoft’s commitment to fostering the essential infrastructure, skill development, and sovereign technological capabilities needed to nurture an AI-centric economy in the country.
This discussion follows Microsoft’s recent announcement of a remarkable $17.5 billion investment in India between 2026 and 2029, a move characterized by the company as its largest financial commitment in Asia.
This investment is aimed at bolstering cloud and AI infrastructure while nurturing skills development and operational frameworks within India.
The Seattle gathering, titled “IDEAS4INDIA: Indian American Tech CEOs Forum | Unlocking the Tech Dividend,” was convened by the Consulate General of India in Seattle as a continuation of the India AI Impact Summit 2026.
Attendees included influential figures from major corporations such as Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing, OpenAI, Anthropic, Intel, and Veeam Software.
The participants collectively boasted decades of expertise in fields ranging from AI and cloud computing to semiconductors, quantum technology, and aerospace.
Discussions probed potential collaboration opportunities concerning data centers, AI infrastructure, chip design and fabrication, quantum research, talent cultivation, and advanced manufacturing.
India’s Ambassador to the U.S., Vinay Kwatra, noted a palpable enthusiasm among participants for enhancing technological alliances between the two nations.
He underscored that India aims for its AI Mission to embrace principles of inclusivity, openness, sovereignty, extensive access, safety, and trust.
The meeting occurred against the backdrop of numerous significant corporate initiatives in India. Amazon has declared its intention to invest $48 billion in the country from 2026 to 2030, which includes the expansion of AWS data center capabilities in Mumbai and Hyderabad. Concurrently, Costco is setting up its inaugural Global Capability Center in Hyderabad.
Several firms represented at the Seattle forum already maintain engineering, research, or commercial operations in India, establishing a robust foundation for further collaborative efforts.
The event commenced with a moment of silence honoring two distinguished Indian-origin technology pioneers linked to Seattle who recently passed away: Samir Bodas, co-founder and CEO of Icertis, and S. Somasegar, managing director at Madrona Venture Group and former corporate vice president at Microsoft.
Participants reflected on their significant contributions to Seattle’s technology landscape and their unwavering support for Indian-origin entrepreneurs.
Ajay Bhatt, a former technologist at Intel and recipient of the Padma Shri award, also contributed to the discussions.
Organizers indicated that this Seattle assembly has the potential to serve as an ongoing conduit for technological collaboration between the two countries.
This initiative may also integrate with the India-U.S. TRUST initiative, aimed at “Transforming the Relationship Utilizing Strategic Technology,” envisioning cooperative endeavors across AI, quantum technology, semiconductors, space, telecommunications, and biotechnology, including joint development and production.
