Apple Introduces iPhone Duo: A Pioneering Foldable Smartphone
Apple has officially launched the iPhone Duo, its inaugural foray into the realm of foldable smartphones.
This innovative device features a book-like configuration, boasting a 7.6-inch internal display alongside a 5.4-inch external screen.
Upon its unfolding, the iPhone Duo emerges as Apple’s slimmest smartphone to date, presenting the largest display in its iPhone lineup thus far.
The external Super Retina XDR display encompasses roughly 90% of the screen area found on the iPhone 18 Pro, while the internal display is a remarkable 50% larger than that of the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Both displays are equipped with advanced features including ProMotion, an Always-On display, and an impressive peak brightness of 3,000 nits for optimal visibility outdoors.
The internal screen is enhanced with a nano-texture finish that minimizes glare and diminishes the visibility of creases.
Notably, Apple has integrated a FaceTime camera beneath the inner display while opting for Touch ID embedded within the side button, departing from the traditional Face ID modality.
Constructed from grade 5 titanium, the iPhone Duo utilizes a sophisticated hinge composed of over 100 components.
The device proudly carries an IP68 rating, signifying robust resistance to water and dust, with the front display protected by the advanced Ceramic Shield 2.
Powering the iPhone Duo is the formidable A20 Pro chip, a technology shared with the latest iPhone 18 Pro models.
This 2-nanometre processor features a six-core CPU, a seven-core GPU, and a dual 16-core Neural Engine.

The foldable architecture also prompts the introduction of new multitasking capabilities in iOS 27. Users can engage in Split View, executing two applications concurrently, open dual windows of the same app, save app pairs, and interact with Siri AI while maintaining visibility of another application.
Apple reports that prominent applications including Netflix, Zoom, and Slack are currently being optimized for this expansive folding display.
The camera ensemble features a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera complemented by a 2x optical-quality telephoto lens and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera.
Users can conveniently preview photos on the outer screen while capturing images with the rear lenses, augmented by a functionality termed Duo Preview that allows subjects to view live framing.
The device is also capable of recording 4K video at a phenomenal 120 frames per second in Dolby Vision.
To enhance its operational longevity, Apple has introduced a dual-battery configuration, with one battery situated on each side of the device.
The iPhone Duo can sustain up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display, 44 hours on the outer screen, and approximately 24 hours of typical use when employing both displays.
Notably, the wired charging capability allows for a rapid recharge to 50% within a mere 20 minutes.
The phone adopts an eSIM-only design for global users, incorporating Apple’s N1 networking chip for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity, as well as its C2 cellular modem.
The iPhone Duo will be offered in star white and night sky color options, with storage capacities ranging from 256GB to a staggering 2TB. The starting price is set at $1,999 in the United States.
Pre-orders are slated to commence on October 16, with availability beginning on October 23 across more than 70 countries and regions. Apple has confirmed that the device will be shipped with iOS 27.1 onboard.
