Strengthened Indo-U.S. Cooperation in Emerging Technologies

Washington, June 28 – India and the United States are intensifying their collaborative efforts in the fields of semiconductors, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, and critical minerals.

Senior officials from both nations emphasized that their strategic partnership is advancing from merely policy discussions to tangible projects and reliable technology supply chains.

During a high-level roundtable held in Washington this week, hosted by the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, Indian Ambassador to the U.S., Vinay Kwatra, highlighted the complementary strengths that each country possesses in burgeoning technologies.

“The horizon before the United States and India spans from microchips to neural networks. India’s targeted initiatives across semiconductors, AI, and quantum technologies, alongside America’s innovative landscape, unlock vast potential for collaboration,” he asserted.

“By joining forces, we can forge robust, dependable technology ecosystems while ensuring secure access to the essential infrastructure that undergirds these advancements,” he added.

The roundtable convened diplomats, policymakers, and industry trailblazers focused on semiconductors, AI, quantum technologies, and critical minerals. The discourse centered on enhancing critical supply chains, expediting AI innovations, and bolstering economic resilience.

S. Krishnan, Secretary in India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), articulated India’s burgeoning role as a trustworthy participant in the global technology supply network.

“India is establishing itself as a reliable and resilient ally in the global technology supply chain. Our electronics manufacturing ecosystem has witnessed remarkable growth; semiconductor fabrication is evolving into a reality, and the upcoming phase of our Semiconductor Mission aims to capitalize on this momentum,” he stated.

“With the synergy of India’s talent, digital public infrastructure, and AI proficiencies, we have an opportunity to create solutions not only for India but for the world at large,” he continued.

K. Nagaraj Naidu, Additional Secretary (Americas) in the Ministry of External Affairs, remarked that the partnership between India and the U.S. has matured into a comprehensive strategic alliance suited for the challenges of contemporary technology.

“India and the United States have forged a comprehensive strategic relationship tailored for the 21st century. Through initiatives encompassing AI, quantum technologies, critical minerals, and advanced energy, we are progressing from theoretical principles to actionable projects,” he noted.

“The private sector will play a crucial role in transforming these frameworks into practical outcomes,” he asserted.

Mukesh Aghi, President and CEO of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), indicated that microchips and critical minerals are poised to shape the future of the global economy.

“The United States and India are uniquely poised to establish the trusted technology partnership of the 21st century. From semiconductors to AI and critical minerals to quantum technologies, the government can create an enabling framework,” he said.

“However, it is the industry that will ultimately steer the execution, innovation, and investment. USISPF is honored to facilitate this dialogue aimed at translating strategic vision into substantive partnerships,” he concluded.

The roundtable was organized by USISPF in collaboration with the Embassy of India in Washington and the Silverado Policy Accelerator.

It featured contributors such as Bill Guidera, Deputy Under Secretary for Innovation and Engagement at the U.S. Department of Commerce, and Christopher Saldana, Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Office of Critical Minerals, Materials, and Manufacturing at the U.S. Department of Energy.
