Google Unveils Pre-Orders for Googlebook Laptop Amidst Industry Partnerships
On Monday, Google announced the commencement of pre-orders for its newest laptop category, the Googlebook, which starts at a price point of $899.
This innovative device merges the functionalities of Android, is grounded in ChromeOS, and boasts built-in features of its advanced Gemini AI technology.
The introduction of Googlebook is a collaborative effort with renowned manufacturers including Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, with sales anticipated to launch in October across various markets.
The entry-level model, priced at $899, offers consumers a laptop crafted from high-end materials, complete with displays that feature resolutions up to 2.8K OLED, haptic glass trackpads, and backlit keyboards.
Equipped with both Intel and Qualcomm processors, Googlebook is designed to include a specialized neural processing unit that can execute over 45 trillion operations every second, while its battery boasts a lifespan of up to 14 hours.
A central component of Google’s strategy involves enhancing synergies between the laptop and Android smartphones.
During the initial setup phase, users can seamlessly transfer settings, saved passwords, Wi-Fi networks, and messages from their mobile devices.
Notable features such as Continue On, Files, and Cast My Apps empower users to maintain continuity in their tasks, access smartphone content, and engage with mobile applications directly from the laptop interface.
Google is also integrating Gemini into the desktop experience, where tools like Magic Pointer can summon Gemini for assistance with on-screen content, and Rambler effectively transforms spoken ideas into organized notes.
Additionally, the Create My Widget feature enables users to design personalized desktop widgets through simple natural-language commands.
For traditional computing tasks, Googlebook blends the desktop Chrome experience with a wide assortment of extensions and provides access to Android applications via the Play Store.
It also accommodates notable applications such as Photoshop, Lightroom, and CapCut. Developers can take advantage of a terminal environment and receive access to Google’s groundbreaking Antigravity AI development platform.
On the security front, Googlebook is underpinned by ChromeOS architecture, incorporates Titan hardware security, and enables on-device malware detection.
Google assures users that the operating system will be eligible for feature updates for a duration of up to ten years.
Pre-orders can be placed through the Google Store, Best Buy, and select retail channels. Devices are set to ship starting October 4 in the United States, followed by availability on October 5 in Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia.
Each Googlebook will be accompanied by a complimentary 12-month subscription to Google AI Pro, which includes 5TB of cloud storage, alongside three months of YouTube Premium access.
