Emesent, an Australian company specializing in autonomous mapping and robotics, has secured US$17 million in fresh funding.
This capital infusion aims to expedite the development of its Cortex AI autonomy platform, enhance its Aura cloud software, and accelerate expansion within the mining, defense, and architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) sectors.
The funds will be allocated toward the increased production capabilities at Emesent’s Wacol facility in Queensland, as well as bolstering two of its pivotal platforms: Cortex AI, an onboard software solution enabling equipment to navigate and operate autonomously in environments devoid of GPS and fraught with hazards; and Aura, a cloud-based platform designed for the processing, visualization, and analysis of 3D data.
Emesent’s flagship offering, Hovermap, has been deployed at over 200 mine sites globally and is regarded as essential equipment by prominent mining entities, such as Rio Tinto, BHP, and Glencore.
Its diverse product suite includes the Hovermap STX, a LiDAR payload adaptable for drones, vehicles, or transport as a backpack; the GX1, an integrated scanner that combines SLAM, RTK positioning, and panoramic imagery capture; the Aura data-processing software; and the Cortex AI autonomous flight software.
These innovations serve a clientele spanning mining, AEC, defense, and critical infrastructure across more than 40 nations.

This funding announcement comes on the heels of robust commercial momentum observed for the GX1, which recently concluded a global AEC roadshow encompassing the Americas, Europe, and Asia.

The US$17 million comprises a US$7 million loan from the National Reconstruction Fund Corporation (NRFC)—Australia’s governmental fund focused on advanced manufacturing—along with aUS$10 million equity investment.
Notably, this marks the first instance in which NRFC has extended such loan funding to a deep-tech entity, underscoring the fund’s commitment to providing flexible, non-dilutive capital to Australian businesses that have demonstrated commercial viability.
