Apple Commences Manufacturing of iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in India Ahead of Anticipated September Launch

New Delhi: In a significant development, Apple has initiated the production of the highly awaited iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max within India, with a launch expectation set for September.

This move underscores India’s burgeoning role within Apple’s supply chain, as local factories gear up to manufacture devices destined for international markets, including the United States and Europe.

According to reports from Moneycontrol, Foxconn will maintain its dominance in the manufacturing landscape, overseeing the majority of iPhone production in India.

As Apple intensifies its integration into the Indian manufacturing ecosystem, projections indicate that the proportion of Pro models produced in the country is expected to rise considerably.

Nevertheless, Tata Electronics is anticipated to play a pivotal role without being the sole contributor to this segment.

Tata Electronics Poised to Amplify Pro Model Production

Having transitioned from standard iPhone assembly to specializing in Pro Series production with the iPhone 17 generation, Tata Electronics is set to receive a greater allocation for Pro models this fiscal year, as reported by sources cited in Moneycontrol.

Despite these advancements, Foxconn will continue to spearhead manufacturing efforts, particularly regarding iPhones targeted for international sales.

Apple anticipates escalating production levels, propelled by assessments of demand and pre-order trends.

India’s Ascendant Role in iPhone Manufacturing Ecosystem

Previously responsible for a mere 6 percent of global iPhone production in 2016, India is projected to bolster this figure to an impressive 26 percent by 2026, as evidenced by data from Counterpoint Research.

Tarun Pathak, head of the Counterpoint study, emphasized to PTI the growing significance of India as a vital production epicenter for Apple, spurred by mounting demand from the US and European markets.

Enhanced exports could also afford Apple greater adaptability to navigate tariff-related challenges. Currently, there are five manufacturing facilities in India operated by Apple’s partners, situated in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Foldable iPhone Production Likely Not to Occur in India Initially

Reports from Moneycontrol suggest that Apple’s inaugural foldable iPhone, tentatively named the iPhone Ultra, is unlikely to be manufactured in India during its initial production run.

A foldable smartphone is displayed partially open on a metal tray beside a closed phone, both featuring metallic finishes and app icons on the screens.

This overarching trend warrants attention. The increasing production of Apple’s Pro devices in India signals the country’s rising prominence in the manufacturing of premium iPhones.

However, Apple’s decision to withhold the production of the foldable model reflects a cautious approach regarding the outsourcing of its more advanced manufacturing processes to India.
