In December, Amazon restructured its AGI operations, consolidating them under Senior Vice President Peter DeSantis, who now oversees a broader technology group that encompasses AGI, silicon chip advancement, and quantum computing projects.
Employees affected by the recent layoffs emanated primarily from two AGI teams, under the leadership of Vice Presidents Adeeb Shanaa and Vishal Sharma, corroborated by various posts across online platforms.
Reports of the workforce reductions surfaced on employee forums, yet Amazon has refrained from specifying the total number impacted.
These layoffs continue to unfold after the company’s considerable workforce reductions earlier this year, which saw approximately 16,000 positions eliminated across diverse business units.
