Acer and Plumage Solutions Collaborate to Boost IT Hardware Manufacturing in India
Acer, a prominent player in the Indian technology sector, has forged a partnership with Plumage Solutions to enhance the domestic manufacturing of IT hardware at a cutting-edge facility in Puducherry. This initiative, established under the Government of India’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for IT hardware, signifies a pivotal moment in Acer’s dedication to the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
The inauguration of this advanced facility allows Acer to broaden its operational footprint in India, building upon its existing collaboration with Plumage, which encompasses the manufacturing of computer monitors, All-in-One (AIO) desktops, servers, workstations, and power adapters.
This strategic investment aligns with Acer India’s comprehensive localization strategy, designed to amplify domestic production, mitigate import reliance, and meet the escalating demand from both urban centers and emerging markets. The Puducherry plant will streamline supply chain operations, curtail delivery durations, and empower Acer to introduce cutting-edge innovations at competitive price levels.
The facility was inaugurated in the presence of esteemed officials, including:
- Shri Sushil Pal, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY);
- Shri A. Vikranth Raja, IAS Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Government of Puducherry;
- Mr. Harish Kohli, President and Managing Director of Acer India;
- Mr. Sudhir Goel, Chief Business Officer of Acer India;
- Mr. Mukesh Gupta, Managing Director of the Plumage Group;
- and Ms. Shalini Pandey, Director of the Plumage Group.
Spanning a substantial area, the Puducherry facility boasts an impressive annual production capacity of 300,000 laptop units and is poised to generate high-skill job opportunities, thereby significantly bolstering the local economy and reinforcing India’s aspiration to emerge as a pivotal hub for electronics manufacturing.
The Plumage Group has earmarked an investment of INR 50 crore over the next three to four years to augment Acer’s manufacturing capabilities in India.
Harish Kohli emphasized, “India is not merely a key market for Acer; it represents a strategic cornerstone for our future growth. With this manufacturing facility in Puducherry, we are elated to contribute to the Government of India’s vision for self-sufficiency in electronics. Our partnership with Plumage enables us to integrate global processes, cutting-edge technology, and superior quality standards into domestic manufacturing, thereby fostering an agile and efficient supply chain that adequately serves the Indian market.”
Sudhir Goel reiterated, “This facility, with its capacity for 300,000 laptops, enhances our manufacturing prowess and underscores our commitment to local value addition and self-sufficiency. As demand for Acer devices escalates, this facility will be instrumental in ensuring expedited market entry, maintaining quality standards, and supporting India’s aspiration to become a global manufacturing leader. This is yet another stride towards producing goods in India, for India, and for the world.”
Mukesh Gupta remarked, “We are thrilled to collaborate with Acer in this new chapter of India’s manufacturing evolution. This partnership transcends a mere commercial agreement; it embodies our joint commitment to cultivating a sustainable and internationally competitive manufacturing landscape.”
Over the past quarter-century, Acer has carved a niche as one of India’s most reputable PC brands, offering innovative solutions across consumer, gaming, and enterprise sectors. This expansion underscores Acer’s long-term vision for India — not solely as a pivotal market, but as a strategic nexus for innovation, operations, and product development.
The output of this facility will cater not only to domestic requirements but also, over time, to international demand, thereby contributing to India’s burgeoning electronics export sector.
Furthermore, Acer envisions this development as a catalyst for deeper engagement with educational institutions, governmental initiatives, and enterprise customers through locally crafted and manufactured products.
By localizing production and aligning closely with national priorities, Acer aspires to drive India from an import-critical IT hardware market to a self-sustaining, export-oriented, and globally competitive manufacturing powerhouse.
