Global Smartwatch Shipments Surge in 2025
New Delhi: A remarkable recovery in global smartwatch shipments has been recorded, showing a 4 percent year-on-year growth in 2025, reversing a downturn seen in 2024, according to a recently released report. This information emerged on Wednesday.
Apple has made headlines with its inaugural year-on-year shipment growth since 2022, a resurgence propelled by an extensive overhaul of its smartwatch offerings, according to Counterpoint Research’s ‘Global Smartwatch Shipments Tracker.’
This market rejuvenation has been instigated by a transformation within the competitive arena, characterized by innovative hardware and software enhancements from prominent market entities.
Additionally, consumers are gravitating towards more sophisticated smartwatches, while a concerted industry emphasis on health-related features has intensified.
China emerged as the driving force behind this global recovery, report findings indicate, with a robust demand for leading domestic brands.
Apple has achieved its first year-on-year shipment upsurge since 2022. This growth is anchored in the comprehensive refresh of its portfolio, which introduced the Series 11, Ultra 3, and SE 3, stated Anshika Jain, senior research analyst.
With these new launches, Apple catered to a diverse audience, presenting devices that ranged from the economically accessible Watch SE 3 to the ultra-luxurious Watch Ultra 3.
Moreover, the portfolio benefited from substantial technological advancements, such as the series-wide adoption of 5G Redcap support, hypertension alerts, and satellite connectivity within the Watch Ultra 3.
Consequently, consumers who had postponed their purchases, anticipating a significantly enhanced smartwatch, were finally presented with enticing options, Jain elaborated.
The smartwatch sector remains on its path of premiumization in 2025, as indicated by a 5 percent year-on-year rise in average selling price (ASP).
Driven by a burgeoning awareness of health and fitness, consumers are opting for higher-priced models that offer greater accuracy and a wealth of features.
Associate Director David Naranjo highlighted, “Shipments of smartwatches equipped with cellular connectivity experienced a 6 percent increase year-on-year.”
The growth of cellular-enabled devices was bolstered by sophisticated health monitoring and emergency SOS functionalities, rendering them more appealing to the general populace.
Apple invigorated this trend with its revamped offerings, including the Watch Series 10, while Xiaomi fortified its cellular range with the Redmi Watch 5 LTE and the Redmi Kids Watch.

The introduction of 5G support in the Watch Series 11 by Apple is anticipated to expedite the widespread adoption of 5G technology across the industry. In 2025, connectivity transcends mere cellular technology.
Companies like Google, Garmin, and Apple have also unveiled satellite connectivity, underscoring a collective focus on developing smartwatches that function independently, remarked Naranjo.
