Amazon Implements Significant Layoffs Impacting Ventura County Workforce
Amazon has declared a wave of layoffs that will affect employees in Ventura County as the corporation embarks on a substantial restructuring initiative.
This action is part of a nationwide strategy that will see approximately 16,000 positions eliminated across the United States, as previously reported on January 28, 2026.
Since October 2025, these layoffs have been a recurrent theme, impacting tens of thousands of workers throughout the organization. Specifically in Ventura, the job cuts are linked to the impending closure of an Amazon facility located in Moorpark.
According to a filing made to the state government of California, the company plans to discontinue operations at 742 Los Angeles Avenue, resulting in approximately 139 job losses in Ventura County, as detailed by Pacific Coast Business Times.
The layoff process is set to conclude by April 28, 2026, with operations at the facility expected to wrap up by March 13, 2026.
This announcement was filed under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, a California statute that mandates companies to provide advance notice regarding layoffs or facility closures.
Beyond the Moorpark site, Amazon plans to shutter multiple other facilities throughout Southern California as well.
Since the onset of layoffs in October, the company has trimmed its workforce by approximately 30,000, representing nearly 10% of its corporate personnel, as reported by Reuters.
Affected departments include Amazon Web Services, Alexa, Prime Video, various digital devices, advertising, and logistics.
Concurrently, Amazon is also shutting down its remaining Amazon Fresh grocery stores and Go markets while discontinuing its Amazon One payment system.
Beth Galetti, Senior Vice President of People Experience and Technology at Amazon, indicated that these layoffs aim to minimize bureaucratic overhead, enhance operational fluidity, and bolster efficiency as the role of technology in the business evolves.
Furthermore, the corporation has announced a strategic pivot towards increased utilization of artificial intelligence and automation as part of its long-term objectives.
In a communiqué directed towards employees, Amazon recognized the challenges these changes present and outlined initiatives to support affected workers.
The company intends to provide extended notice periods that surpass legal requirements, alongside opportunities for employees to explore internal job placements.

For those unable to secure new positions, Amazon has committed to offering severance packages, continued health benefits where applicable, and access to transition and outplacement services.
The organization reassured employees that it will persist in hiring for roles deemed crucial to its future success.
