Widespread AI Utilization Among Americans, Yet Many Remain Unaware
Approximately 90% of Americans engage with artificial intelligence via their mobile devices; however, a mere 38% acknowledge its usage.
A recent survey involving 2,000 adults delved into daily AI interactions, revealing a significant lack of awareness regarding its integration into routines.
AI enhances activities such as weather alerts (42%), call screening (35%), autocorrect (34%), voice assistants (26%), and auto brightness adjustments (25%).
Moreover, AI-enabled camera functions, including night mode (19%) and photo memory slideshows (20%), are considered crucial for both capturing and relishing photographic moments.
Conducted by Talker Research on behalf of Samsung, the study uncovered that 51% of participants perceive themselves as non-users of AI tools on their phones, despite 86% admitting to utilizing common AI features when prompted with a detailed list.
When examining smartphone usage, one in six individuals reports managing at least ten job-related tasks daily, while over three times that number (38%) handles a comparable volume of personal tasks through their devices.
Notably, 55% of Americans predominantly utilize their smartphones for work-related functions, a trend particularly pronounced among Gen Z respondents (74%).
Consequently, 47% consider their mobile devices indispensable for professional endeavors, with millennials (65%) and Gen Z (62%) being the most likely to concur.
Furthermore, 60% utilize their phones primarily to remain organized, surpassing the use of other devices for this purpose.
Despite the average individual regularly employing only half of the apps available on their smartphones, 57% express confidence in their ability to articulate the functions of every feature, regardless of usage.
Even with smartphones consistently at hand, there remains a wealth of undiscovered capabilities; 34% of participants reported encountering new features monthly.
In terms of specific AI applications, respondents indicated various practical uses, such as brainstorming ideas and enhancing task organization. One third of those surveyed admitted to utilizing AI for employment applications.
Others employ AI for creative endeavors, including culinary tutorials, songwriting assistance, and engaging in playful dialogue.
Among participants who initially doubted their AI engagement, 25% shifted to a more favorable view upon realizing its embeddedness in their daily lives.
A majority of Americans express a desire for AI to facilitate time-saving measures (28%), simplify tasks (27%), provide immediate solutions (23%), and aid in skill enhancement or learning (22%).
As technological advancements continue, the average respondent anticipates approximately three years remaining for conventional phone usage before AI fundamentally alters device interaction; one in five predicts this transformation could occur within a year.

When queried about future phone capabilities, many respondents envision advanced AI functionalities, such as “health monitoring, detecting vital signs, and delivering personalized wellness alerts,” or “anticipating thoughts and executing auto-insertion without manual input.”
Additional aspirations include desires for self-driving capabilities and the ability for phones to recharge autonomously without electricity.
