Amazon and Deloitte Study Highlights E-Commerce Trends Among Irish Consumers
A comprehensive study conducted by Amazon in collaboration with Deloitte scrutinized data spanning from 2019 to 2024, surveying over 1,000 Irish consumers.
The findings illuminate a significant correlation between the burgeoning popularity of e-commerce and a deceleration in price inflation.
Notably, for every 1% surge in online shopping engagement, annual inflation diminishes by roughly 0.03% to 0.06%. This data underscores the advantages that households derive from online shopping, enabling them to preserve their purchasing power.
“Our research unequivocally illustrates the tangible value that e-commerce provides to Irish consumers, especially amidst economic adversities,” remarked Alison Dunn, Ireland Country Manager at Amazon.
“With 86% of Irish consumers engaging in online shopping, we are witnessing a marked expansion in access to a diverse array of products at competitive prices, while simultaneously saving time and effort in their daily routines.”

Enhancing Access for Rural Communities and Irish Sellers
The study further elucidated distinct advantages for rural communities, revealing that 41% of rural respondents regarded access to shops beyond their local vicinity as a crucial incentive for online shopping, in contrast to only 27% of urban respondents. Rural consumers were also 6% more likely to identify securing better deals online as a fundamental motivator.

Looking forward, the study revealed that 74% of Irish consumers anticipate maintaining or increasing their online expenditure within the upcoming year, signaling sustained sector growth.
