Joint Commission Appoints Laura Ryan as Chief Marketing and Communications Officer

Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., Oct. 07, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Joint Commission has appointed Laura Ryan, an accomplished professional in healthcare and corporate communications, as its new chief marketing and communications officer, effective October 13.

Ryan transitions from Ruder Finn, where she led U.S. Corporate Communications, and brings over 25 years of experience in integrated marketing and communications to her new role.

For decades, the Joint Commission has exemplified the highest standards in healthcare quality and safety. However, the contemporary landscape of healthcare is marked by unprecedented dynamism and complexity.

We recognize the pivotal role that precise, strategic communication plays in conveying our mission to enhance healthcare quality and safety for all stakeholders, stated Jonathan B. Perlin, MD, PhD, President and CEO of the Joint Commission.

“Laura’s impressive background in brand positioning, strategic communications, and brand management positions her as the ideal candidate to articulate our narrative to the healthcare community and beyond.”

Reporting directly to Dr. Perlin, Ryan will oversee an array of marketing, branding, and communications efforts. This includes managing internal and external communications, digital marketing initiatives, and stakeholder engagement.

Her strategic focus will be to enhance the accessibility and comprehension of the Joint Commission’s standards and quality improvement resources throughout the healthcare ecosystem.

“This is an exhilarating moment to be joining the Joint Commission, as the organization undergoes significant evolution, refining its contributions to the future of healthcare both in the U.S. and globally,” remarked Ryan.

“Being part of a leadership team that is not only mission-driven but also at the forefront of transforming healthcare quality is both humbling and immensely gratifying.”

Previously, Ryan served as managing director at Ruder Finn, where she adeptly navigated numerous clients through intricate business and reputational challenges across diverse fields.

Prior to her tenure at Ruder Finn, Ryan led the U.S. corporate practice for Cohn & Wolfe and held senior leadership roles at Ketchum and Burson-Marsteller.

Her extensive experience in healthcare communications includes collaborations with prominent pharmaceutical companies, healthcare organizations, and major health systems such as the Cleveland Clinic, Biogen, Sanofi, Boehringer Ingelheim, and Takeda Pharmaceuticals.

In conjunction with her agency experience, Ryan possesses invaluable in-house insights from her roles at the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association and the American Osteopathic Association, where she acquired a profound understanding of healthcare operations and the regulatory landscape.
