Release of Enhanced Update for Apple Frames
Today marks the launch of a minor yet significant update to Apple Frames, an innovative shortcut designed for framing screenshots captured on Apple devices, now incorporating support for the iPhone Duo and the 18 Pro series.
Building upon the groundwork laid in Apple Frames 4 earlier this year, the integration of the new bezels introduced by Apple proceeded with remarkable expediency.
This update, akin to its predecessor, offers a plethora of options, including diverse color palettes for each device, multiple orientations, and different model variants.
For users who prefer to utilize an iPhone 17 Pro frame rather than the latest iteration, that option remains available. Detailed instructions on configuring the Apple Frames shortcut can be found in my April article.
The primary obstacle encountered during this update was ensuring seamless compatibility of the shortcut with the varying device postures of the iPhone Duo, all while maintaining an effortless experience for users eager to swiftly utilize Apple Frames.
Thankfully, the newly extensible foundation of Apple Frames facilitated the effortless inclusion of iPhone Duo capabilities.
Whether framing a screenshot from the exterior or interior display in either portrait or landscape mode, Apple Frames operates flawlessly.
Additionally, when merging multiple screenshots from various devices into a single composite image, the tool will proportionally scale them, ensuring that their physical dimensions appear harmonious alongside one another.
This advancement in the Apple Frames shortcut follows a series of enhancements recently released for the Frames CLI for developers and AI enthusiasts.
The command-line version of Apple Frames has supported the iPhone Duo and 18 Pro series since last month. Beyond merely framing screenshots, it can also produce framed screen recordings.
Recent upgrades to the CLI, propelled by Opus 5.5 and contributions from the open-source community, have dramatically increased its performance, making the framing of multiple screenshots and recordings swifter than ever.
The Frames CLI serves thousands of developers, underscoring the urgency of readiness ahead of iPhone Duo app submissions to the App Store.
As of today, Apple has yet to release official frames for the Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra 4, or the latest iPad mini.
Rest assured, I will promptly update the shortcut as new product bezels are made available. However, both the latest versions of the shortcut and CLI currently support the new MacBook Pro featuring the PROLED XDR Display—in principle.

Lacking the new MacBook Pro, I have yet to validate the functionality of the CLI and shortcut with authentic screenshots. If you own one and face issues, please do not hesitate to reach out.
You can download the most recent iteration of Apple Frames below and explore it, along with a vast array of other shortcuts, within the MacStories Shortcuts Archive.
