Samsung Expedites Launch of Galaxy Z Trifold 2 Amidst iPhone Competition
In a strategic maneuver, Samsung is reportedly hastening the release of the Galaxy Z Trifold 2, spurred by the recent introduction of Apple’s iPhone Duo.
This development has emerged from various reports circulating on Chinese social media platforms, suggesting that Samsung is advancing the timeline for its next-generation tri-fold mobile device.
The information was disseminated by a tech blogger who collated insights from social media, indicating a proactive approach by Samsung to ensure the timely debut of the Galaxy Z Trifold 2, despite the lackluster performance of its predecessor in the marketplace.
This urgency from Samsung follows Apple’s unveiling of the iPhone Duo, which has raised substantial trepidation regarding the competitive landscape within the folding smartphone sector.
Samsung’s apprehensions reportedly pertain to the weight of the Apple device. Preceding the iPhone Duo’s official launch, Samsung had made remarks concerning the device’s anticipated heft.
Upon the announcement of the iPhone Duo, it was noted that Apple’s offering possesses superior protection against dust and debris. This aspect distinctly addresses a notable vulnerability that has plagued Samsung’s folding devices.
Samsung’s most recent folding model is believed to be equipped with an IP48 certification, safeguarding against certain solid particulates but permitting the infiltration of larger particles, such as grains of sand.
Conversely, the iPhone Duo boasts an IP68 certification, reflecting a heightened level of protection against dust. This disparity highlights a critical point of contention in the ongoing rivalry between Samsung’s foldable offerings and Apple’s latest innovations.
In light of these developments, Samsung is rumored to be finalizing preparations for the Galaxy Z Trifold 2, with intentions to expedite its launch. This information was reported by 9to5Google, based on ongoing discussions within Chinese digital communities.
The Galaxy Z Trifold 2 is anticipated to succeed the Galaxy Z TriFold, a device characterized by its dual-hinge design, facilitating the formation of three separate display segments.
The decision to accelerate the launch comes as a surprising strategy, especially given the commercial underperformance of its predecessor.
The inaugural Galaxy Z TriFold made its debut in the U.S. market in January, with a price tag hovering around USD 2,900. At an exchange rate of Rp17,723.17 per dollar, this translates to approximately Rp51.4 million.
However, the device faced a rapid discontinuation of sales merely three months post-launch, linked to speculation that Samsung might have been selling it below production costs.
This context positions the expedited launch of the Galaxy Z Trifold 2 as a significant pivot in Samsung’s strategy within the folding smartphone arena. Current reports remain primarily speculative, grounded in sources from social media outlets.

With the iPhone Duo’s entry into the market, competition in the folding device segment intensifies. Samsung, having pioneered the development of folding smartphones, now finds itself contending with Apple’s timely foray into a landscape that emphasizes superior dust protection through its IP68 certification.
