On September 11, the Bureau of Immigration’s official Instagram account unveiled a captivating image of the new iPhone Duo, playfully announcing the acceptance of e-boarding passes at all immigration checkpoints throughout India.
Accompanying the announcement, the Bureau’s post featured two images of the iPhone Duo: one depicting a standard screensaver with the witticism ‘One more thing to fold,’ and another showing an e-boarding pass with the clever caption ‘One less thing to fold.’
The post concluded with an informative note to travelers: “e-Boarding passes are now accepted at all Immigration counters. You no longer need to carry a physical boarding pass to clear immigration.”
Passengers Can Bypass Physical Boarding Passes
The recent social media activity follows an earlier announcement specifying that passengers departing from India on international flights will no longer need to present a physical boarding pass or obtain a stamp at immigration counters, effective September 1.
The update, relayed through an internal memo by Deepak Yadav, Senior Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (Delhi), outlined how the previous requirement for physical boarding passes had hindered operational efficiency at counters. Compounding the issue, illegible ink stamps often resulted in reading errors during the clearance process.
The memo articulated, “The Bureau of Immigration has thoroughly assessed the situation and determined that the mandatory requirement for physical boarding passes and their stamping at Immigration counters will be discontinued at all international airports in the country.”
Despite this transition, passengers will still be required to complete standard immigration procedures and present their passports.
