Programs recognizing prior learning could facilitate seasoned workers in demonstrating their skills, acquiring certifications, and subsequently engaging in advanced training in areas such as EVs, electronics, and digital diagnostics.

Speakers underscored that this initiative will be increasingly crucial as vehicles grow in complexity and maintenance practices become more technologically intensive.

The demand for adept technicians extends beyond productivity, impacting road safety, as inadequate vehicle maintenance and erroneous repairs can lead to grave safety implications.

India’s Potential as a Global Supplier of Skilled Workforce

The conclave further positioned India’s youthful demographic as a potential competitive edge amid the shifting skill landscapes of global automotive and advanced manufacturing sectors.

Speakers posited that India could emerge as a supplier of skilled technical expertise to international markets, provided its training and certification frameworks adhere to globally recognized standards.

At WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, ASDC is endorsing 12 Indian contestants across 10 skill categories, which encompass automobile technology, electric vehicle technology, autobody repair, additive manufacturing, Industry 4.0, industrial control, and robotic systems integration.

The overarching challenge, as reiterated by speakers, lies in ensuring that India’s demographic dividend translates into a workforce adept at supporting the forthcoming evolution of automotive manufacturing.
