Wall Street Close Higher Amid Tech Recovery
NEW YORK: The primary indexes of Wall Street recorded an uptick on Tuesday, as technology stocks experienced a rebound following a prior selloff, notably in anticipation of Nvidia’s forthcoming earnings report. Investors exhibited signs of relief as crude oil prices and bond yields experienced declines.
These advancements may allay apprehensions among investors that have been amplified by a recent upheaval in the bond market, which resulted in increased yields, consequently exerting downward pressure on equities.
Additionally, this upward momentum could establish a positive trajectory as we enter September, a month traditionally marked by weaker stock performance.
On Tuesday, longer-dated Treasury yields witnessed a fall triggered by a drop in oil prices to their lowest point in over a week, coupled with traders carefully evaluating the ramifications of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s expanded Treasury buybacks.
“There’s a considerable degree of oscillation – in the realms of the bond market, geopolitical tensions, and oil prices,” remarked Joe Quinlan, the head of market strategy at Merrill and Bank of America Private Bank.
“Nonetheless, we maintain a favorable outlook for the U.S. economy over the next 12 to 18 months, which in turn bolsters our confidence in the markets.”
The forthcoming results from Nvidia, scheduled for Wednesday, will serve as a pivotal indicator for the earnings-driven market rally. Any indications of decelerating growth could rekindle trepidations regarding inflated valuations and the sustainability of the current AI-driven expansion.
“This exemplifies the quintessential challenge of being at the forefront of development – when you become the central trade, execution shifts from being a catalyst to merely a prerequisite,” stated Mark Malek, Chief Investment Officer at Siebert Financial.
Market participants have grown increasingly cautious regarding cyclical expenditure and the financing strategies employed by hyperscalers to facilitate their AI infrastructural expansions.

Conversely, Dick’s Sporting Goods suffered a dramatic decline of 30.7 percent after the retailer amended its annual forecasts downward. Meanwhile, sports apparel giant Nike recorded a slight decrease.
Target’s stock fell by 3.8 percent, following an apology for and subsequent withdrawal of a Halloween costume that sparked criticism for resembling blackface, reigniting concerns over branding missteps as the retailer’s financial recovery efforts had just begun to show promise.
The Personal Consumption Expenditures report, anticipated on Wednesday, may shed more light on inflationary pressures following a consumer inflation reading that aligned closely with expectations this month, alleviating speculation regarding an imminent interest rate hike by the U.S. Federal Reserve.
A survey released on Tuesday indicated that U.S. consumer confidence had diminished in August, hitting its lowest level in seven months.
Despite this, market analysts continue to expect a 25-basis-point rate hike by year-end, as per LSEG data.
