Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 15 Pro+ 5G Undergoes Rigorous Durability Testing
Zack Nelson, renowned for his meticulous testing methods at JerryRigEverything, recently scrutinized the durability of Xiaomi’s formidable mid-range contender, the Redmi Note 15 Pro+ 5G.
This device boasts an impressive array of features, including a fiberglass back panel purportedly ten times more impact-resistant than conventional glass, a front display safeguarded by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and an IP69 rating indicating extraordinary resilience against both water and dust.
Moreover, it is powered by an expansive 6500mAh silicon-carbon battery, which is claimed to retain 80% of its charge even after 1,600 cycles. But how do these bold assertions stand up to reality?
The testing commenced with a scratch resistance evaluation. Nelson discarded the screen protector and deployed picks across the display to gauge its responsiveness. It performed nearly as expected for a Victus 2 panel, exhibiting scratches at level 6 and a more pronounced mark at level 7.
Despite these abrasions, the 32-megapixel selfie camera remained operational, and the under-screen optical fingerprint scanner continued to function flawlessly. In an impressive display of resilience against thermal exposure, Nelson subjected the device to a direct flame for 25 seconds without any visible degradation.
Durability Assessment: Bend Test and Engineering Insights
The subsequent phase involved a bend test, aimed at determining the device’s ability to withstand flexural forces. Nelson applied pressure from both ends of the phone, and the result was remarkable—there was negligible flex.
This durability can be attributed to a robust plastic frame, an internal metallic substructure, and the durable fiberglass back panel, which significantly outperforms standard glass options. In addition, Nelson attempted a knife scrape on the surface, and the device emerged relatively unscathed.
A comprehensive breakdown of the device unveiled the engineering marvel that underpins its sturdiness. Upon dismantling, the substantial metal mid-frame and a large vapor chamber for thermal management became apparent, alongside dual battery connectors designed for 100W charging.
The charging port is encircled by a substantial rubber cover to thwart water ingress, which is particularly crucial given its IP69 certification. Protective membranes and water damage indicators safeguard sensitive components, with the 200-megapixel camera and ultrawide lens appearing exceptionally robust.

As an added bonus, the structural integrity of the phone suggests commendable drop protection. Xiaomi asserts that the device can endure falls from heights of 2.5 meters, supported by SGS certification.
Although Nelson did not conduct extreme drop tests in this instance, the phone’s ability to withstand significant bending, scratching, thermal exposure, and disassembly without catastrophic failure lends credence to these assertions.
Remarkably, all functions, including the speakers and SIM tray ejection mechanism, operated seamlessly post-testing.
