Apple is poised to unveil the latest versions of its operating systems, including iOS 27 and macOS 27, during the forthcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in Cupertino.
The tech titan is anticipated to launch a suite of innovative features, with a particular emphasis on augmenting Siri’s functionalities. Notably, the voice assistant is set to evolve into a fully-fledged AI entity in iOS 27.
When will iOS 27 be released?
Should Apple adhere to its conventional release schedule, the inaugural developer beta for iOS 27 may be unveiled on June 8, 2026, immediately following Tim Cook’s keynote address at WWDC.
A preliminary public beta could be anticipated in July, while the stable iteration of the new OS is likely to accompany the launch of the new iPhones in September.
Existing iPhone models are expected to receive the update soon after the formal announcement of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Ultra.
Siri will be powered by Google’s Gemini model
Apple initially hinted at a significant overhaul for Siri at WWDC 2024, yet the company encountered challenges during the development process.
Recently, control has been transferred to Google, which is reportedly creating a bespoke Gemini model specifically for Siri.
This revamped assistant will possess the capability to access users’ contextual data, analyze on-screen content, and execute actions autonomously.
A new Siri app is also coming
The forthcoming Siri app is anticipated to function akin to a contemporary AI chatbot, featuring a toggle button for voice mode, the ability to remember previous conversations, and options for auto-deleting chat histories.
Additionally, it may incorporate an attachment picker for documents and images. iOS 27 is also expected to showcase redesigned animations for Siri, potentially alluded to in Apple’s promotional materials for WWDC 2026.
Siri will come to Dynamic Island on iPhones
With the introduction of iOS 27, Siri will be integrated into the Dynamic Island feature on iPhones. A ‘Search or Ask’ interface will appear from the top of the screen upon a downward swipe by users.
This innovative design will enable them to utilize Apple’s AI-enhanced search to gather information online, utilize applications, send messages, create calendar events, and search through notes, among other tasks facilitated by Siri.
Siri will also help in analyzing objects and landmarks
The new interface will empower users to initiate applications, compose text messages, inquire about the weather, schedule calendar events, search through notes, or trigger shortcuts within applications using Apple’s AI-enhanced search.
The results will manifest in a visually rich text card, elegantly emerging from the Dynamic Island. Siri will also become integrated into the Camera app with iOS 27, allowing users to point their cameras at objects or landmarks and receive analyses through third-party AI services.
Photos app may get AI editing tools
Apple is reportedly developing new AI-driven editing capabilities for the Photos app. Features under consideration include Reframe and Extend, alongside a more intuitive natural language prompt system for photo editing.

This would enable users to request alterations like cropping images, eliminating distractions, or modifying colors via either voice or text commands.
However, it remains uncertain if these functionalities will be included in the first iteration of iOS 27.
