The viral video alleging to depict an Iranian assault on the Al Udeid US military base in Qatar, has been confirmed as AI-generated.
New Delhi (Vishvas News). Amidst the ongoing conflict between the US-Israeli coalition and Iran, which has now entered its third week, a dramatic video has gained traction across various social media platforms.
The footage ostensibly portrays scenes of turmoil, with individuals and vehicles in disarray, culminating in a chaotic exodus following a purported explosion.
Many social media users are disseminating this clip, falsely claiming it illustrates a recent Iranian missile attack on the US Al Udeid Air Base situated in Qatar.
Upon investigation, Vishvas News determined that the viral video lacks authenticity and is, in fact, the product of artificial intelligence.
Examining the Viral Post
On March 17, 2026, the Instagram account ‘thenewscartel’ shared the video (archive link), accompanied by a caption purporting: “Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar – March 16, 2026: On March 16, Iran executed a ballistic missile and drone assault on the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest US military installation in the Middle East, located near Doha.
This act was purportedly a response to US-Israeli offensives in Tehran. The Qatar Ministry of Defence reportedly confirmed the strike: multiple missiles and drones were launched from Iran, with Qatari air defenses successfully intercepting most.
One missile either impacted near the base or fell in an uninhabited area, inflicting no casualties or significant damage. Explosions rippled through Doha, with smoke visible in the skyline.”
This post has garnered around 1.5 million views.
Investigation Details
To ascertain the veracity of the viral claim, an in-depth analysis of the video was conducted. Observations revealed peculiar anomalies: one individual was seen retreating unnaturally, while another appeared to flicker in and out of existence.
Additionally, as people fled the scene, their corporeal forms exhibited distortions. Such oddities led to suspicions regarding the video’s origin, indicating it was likely generated by AI.
Utilizing Tencent’s ‘Zhuque AI’ video detection tool, we assessed the video and found an alarming 80% probability that it was AI-generated.
Conversely, Hive Moderation suggested a 57% likelihood of AI involvement.
To further substantiate our findings, we engaged the ‘Deepfakes Analysis Unit’ (DAU) through a collaboration with the ‘Trusted Information Alliance’ (TIA). Their snapshot analyses employed the ‘AI or Not’ tool, producing a striking 92% probability of AI generation.
This comprehensive investigation conclusively establishes that the viral video was devised using artificial intelligence technologies.
