Vaio Unveils Kachi-iro Special Edition in Japan
Vaio has introduced the Kachi-iro Special Edition of its T series in Japan, featuring a unique design and versatile functionality.
This 13.3-inch Copilot+ PC boasts an impressive Core Ultra X7 358H processor, paired with Intel Arc B390 graphics, up to 64GB of LPDDR5X memory, and a vibrant 2.5K touchscreen display.
The premium edition was initially unveiled earlier this month alongside the standard models of the T series, igniting interest among tech enthusiasts.
The Kachi-iro Special Edition is powered by either the Intel Core Ultra X7 358H or the Core Ultra 7 356H processors.
Both configurations offer 16 cores, 16 threads, and a 25W power envelope, complemented by a neural processing unit (NPU) capable of delivering up to 50 TOPS.
The X7 variant reaches frequencies up to 4.8GHz, while the Core Ultra 7 peaks at 4.7GHz, utilizing Intel’s graphics solutions.
Benchmark tests reveal that the Core Ultra X7 358H generally outperforms its counterpart, although the margin is minimal in certain assessments.
It achieved a notable score of 4,164 points in Cinebench 2026’s multi-core tests, compared to the Core Ultra 7’s 3,769 points.
Similarly, the X7 scored 18,806 points in Cinebench R23’s multi-core results, ahead of the 18,586 points recorded by the Core Ultra 7.
The laptop continues the T series’ legacy with its 13.3-inch WQXGA touchscreen, boasting a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 and an aspect ratio of 16:10.
Its innovative multi-flip mechanism permits usage in laptop, tablet, and viewing modes, enhancing its adaptability to various tasks.
Configurations allow for up to 64GB of onboard LPDDR5X memory and an expansive 2TB fifth-generation SSD, utilizing PCIe 5.0 x4 technology. The memory is soldered onto the motherboard, meaning it is not upgradeable post-purchase.
Design and Features
The Kachi-iro model stands out with its cohesive aesthetic and features an optional keyboard with hidden engraving. The keycaps, rendered in black, conceal the lettering until activated by the keyboard’s backlighting.
Depending on the selected configuration, the laptop’s weight ranges from 1.290 kg to 1.368 kg (2.84 to 3.02 lbs). Its dimensions are 312 x 224.6 x 14.6 to 19.6 mm (12.28 x 8.84 x 0.57 to 0.77 inches).
When equipped with the optional high-capacity battery, it is rated for as long as 18 hours of video playback and an astonishing 29 hours of idle time, according to the JEITA 3.0 measurement protocol.
The device is further enhanced with a 9.2MP camera that incorporates an AI vision sensor, alongside Windows Hello authentication support.
Vaio additionally integrates AI-driven noise cancellation, and its WellnessCare feature is slated for rollout on September 30.
Pricing and Availability
The Vaio T Kachi-iro Special Edition (model VCTNN18) is currently available in Japan through the Vaio Store, with pricing starting at ¥390,500 ($2,483).
This entry-level configuration includes the Core Ultra 7 356H processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD.
For those seeking a more robust configuration, the top-tier model featuring the Core Ultra X7 358H, 64GB of RAM, and a 2TB SSD is priced at ¥797,500 ($5,072).
Additional options, including a high-capacity battery and Windows 11 Pro, can be acquired for an extra fee. Notably, there is a ¥33,000 launch discount applicable until December 1, 2026.
