Cybersecurity Scholarships Available at UAH

The Centre for Cybersecurity Research and Education at the University of Alabama in Huntsville has announced the opening of applications for cybersecurity scholarships under the CyberCorps: Scholarship for Service (SFS) program and the Department of Defence Cyber Service Academy. Students may apply for the Fall 2026 semester, with all cybersecurity-related degrees qualifying for consideration.

Administered and funded by the National Science Foundation in collaboration with the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, the CyberCorps SFS program offers substantial benefits. These include full coverage of tuition and fees, a cost-of-living stipend, and reimbursement for travel and professional development expenses.

Scholarship recipients will incur a service obligation to the federal government post-graduation from UAH, along with the requirement to complete an internship during the summer semester.

The Scholarship for Service initiative aims to recruit and cultivate the next generation of information technology experts, industrial control system security specialists, and security managers.

This effort seeks to address the critical needs of cybersecurity across federal, state, and local government agencies. The program supports undergraduate and master’s degree candidates for up to two years, while doctoral candidates can receive support for up to three years.

The application process for the scholarship program is aligned with that of the Cyber Service Academy, which offers similar benefits.

Importantly, students awarded the Cyber Service Academy scholarship are matched with a DOD employer immediately. Applicants are encouraged to submit both applications concurrently to enhance their likelihood of receiving aid.

Benefits of the Scholarship for Service encompass complete tuition coverage, along with an annual stipend of $27,000 for undergraduate students and $37,000 for graduate students.

An additional allocation of $6,000 per year is available for professional development, travel, technology purchases, and other miscellaneous expenses.

For undergraduate and master’s candidates, the scholarship duration is limited to two academic years, while doctoral candidates may avail themselves of support for up to three years.

Scholarship holders must secure employment with a federal organisation for a duration that corresponds with their scholarship period and sustain a minimum 3.0 GPA for undergraduates or a 3.2 GPA for graduates.

Similarly, the Cyber Service Academy Program guarantees complete tuition coverage and an annual stipend of $27,000 for undergraduates, along with $32,000 for graduates.

Moreover, recipients of this program receive an annual allowance of $1,250 for books and a $1,500 allotment for laptop expenses, valid for up to two years for undergraduate and master’s students. If a graduate-level course of study is continued, total support may extend up to five years.

Participants who receive awards from the Cyber Service Academy must remain employed with their designated federal organization for a period matching that of their scholarship while achieving a 3.5 GPA for graduate students or a 3.2 GPA for undergraduates.

The initiatives are overseen by Dr Tommy Morris, Director, and Sharon Johnson, Deputy Director of CCRE. The deadline for digital submission of applications for both scholarship programs is 10:59 PM on January 28. Late submissions will not be accepted.
