Tirupati Hosts Drone Awareness Session for Vigilance Department Staff
In a significant stride towards modernizing security practices, a drone awareness session was conducted on Thursday for the vigilance department staff of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams.
This initiative took place at the esteemed Sri Venkateswara Central Library and Research Centre in Tirupati, aiming to promote the comprehension and application of drone technology to bolster security, surveillance, and safety operations within the regions of Tirumala and Tirupati.
Approximately 57 officers from the TTD’s vigilance department participated in this comprehensive training program, which elucidated various facets of drone technology. Topics covered during the sessions included:
- The historical progression and development of drones
- Drone Regulations 2021
- The integral role of drones in ensuring security and safety
- Integration of drones with artificial intelligence
- Drone forensic investigations
- Counter-drone technologies
The training was expertly conducted by the Ariista Academy, with facilitation support from HCL Technologies, exemplifying their ongoing commitment to enhancing technological proficiencies in public safety operations.
Following the session, six vigilance officers were selected for advanced drone training and remote pilot certification.
Upon successfully completing this training, these officers will be certified to operate drones for surveillance and monitoring initiatives within Tirumala and Tirupati.
Notably, with two TTD vigilance officers having already acquired a drone pilot license in 2024, the total number of licensed drone pilots at TTD is set to increase to eight after the current cohort’s training and certification is completed, as stated by K V Murali Krishna, the Chief Vigilance and Security Officer of TTD.
In a further enhancement of operational capabilities, HCL Technologies is set to donate two advanced drones equipped with day and night vision cameras, alongside a thermal imaging camera.
These drones will significantly augment night surveillance and monitoring capabilities across various security and safety operations, including border and perimeter security, disaster management, wildlife monitoring, and traffic and crowd management.
This initiative aims to ensure the safety and security of devotees and the infrastructure at Tirumala and Tirupati.
