Trump Lauds Sriram Krishnan’s Influence on AI Policy
US President Donald Trump has extolled Indian-American entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and author Sriram Krishnan, crediting him with significant contributions to the United States’ artificial intelligence strategy and enhancing its stance against China.
Trump’s commendation occurred during a brief yet notable interaction at the White House Christmas Party. In a widely circulated video clip, the President remarked, “Without him, things on AI would not function well.”
The President underscored Krishnan’s pivotal role in the executive action that has garnered much attention.
In acknowledgment, Krishnan attributed the success of the emergent AI frameworks to Trump’s leadership, emphasizing the robust support received from the technology sector. He elaborated that the initiative aims to solidify the United States’ competitive edge in the international AI landscape.
Krishnan clarified that the current operational framework hinges on executive authority, with the administration actively pursuing congressional endorsement to institutionalize its provisions. He informed Trump that momentum for support on Capitol Hill has surged recently.
Earlier this month, Trump enacted an Executive Order aimed at shielding American AI innovation from the burdensome, inconsistent compliance consequences arising from disparate state legislations.
This directive mandates the Attorney General to establish an AI Litigation Task Force, tasked with contesting unconstitutional state AI regulations that impede innovation.
Furthermore, it instructs the Secretary of Commerce to assess state AI laws conflicting with national policy priorities and to suspend non-deployment Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) funding for states enacting such inconsistent measures, as articulated in a White House statement.
Profile of Sriram Krishnan
In December of the previous year, Trump appointed Krishnan as the Senior White House Policy Advisor on Artificial Intelligence. With a formidable background that includes leadership roles at Microsoft, Twitter, Yahoo!, Facebook, and Snap, Krishnan collaborates with David O. Sacks, the White House AI & Crypto Czar.

Renowned within Silicon Valley, Krishnan has risen to prominence within the tech milieu, particularly after billionaire Elon Musk enlisted him to oversee Twitter in a temporary capacity in 2022.
Hailing from Chennai, Krishnan has established a reputation as a visionary strategist in Silicon Valley. His esteemed career trajectory features influential positions with major tech entities, notably at Facebook, where his contributions significantly enhanced the Facebook Audience Network, contending with Google’s advertising ecosystem. During his inaugural tenure at Twitter, he directed initiatives to bolster user engagement.
