Hernandez Departing TikTok After Six Years
Hernandez has concluded nearly six years of service at TikTok and ByteDance. Initially, she concentrated on marketing strategies pertaining to the company’s advertising sector, subsequently broadening her focus to encompass consumer marketing.
TikTok provides a diverse range of advertising tools tailored for brands and marketers, and Hernandez played a crucial role in formulating the strategy and disseminating these offerings to clients.
Confirmation of Exit on LinkedIn
In a LinkedIn post on Thursday morning, Hernandez confirmed her departure, stating her intention to take a moment for a “deliberate exhale.”
A Message on Rest and Reflection
“Choosing to rest is not stepping out of the game,” Hernandez articulated in her message. “It takes clarity and confidence to step back long enough to recharge your body, reset your thinking, and expand your vision.”
Previous Experience
Before joining TikTok, Hernandez held the position of chief customer officer at the consumer-insights platform Suzy. Her career also included a tenure at a creative agency within Publicis Groupe.
Successor Appointment
Isobel Sita-Lumsden, an executive based in the UK who has specialized in off-platform marketing partnerships and social media, will succeed Hernandez, as indicated in the internal memo.
Recognition of Contributions
In his memo, Liu noted, “Sofia played a defining role in shaping our global go-to-market strategy. This encompassed enhancing our footprint in priority markets and fortifying collaboration among brand, product, and commercial teams.”
Trends in Executive Departures
Hernandez’s departure marks a continuation of an exodus of US executives from TikTok over the past year. Notably, Blake Chandlee, former head of global business solutions, stepped down approximately one year ago.
The term “global business solutions” refers to TikTok’s division dedicated to advertising products. In January, Kim Farrell, TikTok’s global head of creators, also departed amid a reorganization in the company’s content sector. Furthermore, Kate Jhaveri, previously the head of marketing, exited in late 2024.
Corporate Transitions
Hernandez’s resignation occurs during a pivotal period for TikTok, which has recently restructured parts of its US operations into a joint venture.
While certain employees are now aligned with a new US division led by investors like Oracle, Silver Lake, and MGX, marketing and advertising staff continue under the aegis of ByteDance.
Projected Revenue Growth

According to estimates from EMARKETER, TikTok is expected to accrue approximately $18 billion in advertising revenue within the US this year, as reported by Business Insider’s sister organization.
