[Press Release] CHENNAI, India, September 3, 2026 – RS Web Solutions
Star Health and Allied Insurance Co. Ltd., one of India’s leading standalone health insurers, today announced the rollout of upgraded versions of two of its most-used digital tools: an online premium estimator and a body mass index (BMI) checker, both now live on the company’s website as part of a broader push to make health insurance planning more transparent for consumers.
A More Transparent Way to Estimate Coverage Costs
The updated Health Insurance Premium Calculator allows prospective and existing policyholders to generate an instant premium estimate by entering basic details such as age, city, and desired sum insured, without speaking to an agent first. The tool is designed to support decision-making at two key moments: at the time of purchase, when buyers are comparing coverage levels, and at renewal, when family size, location, or health status may have changed since the original policy was issued.
The company said the update reflects a steady rise in usage of its self-service tools over the past year, as more buyers look to independently verify pricing before engaging with a sales representative.
BMI Calculator Adds a Health-Risk Lens to the Buying Process
Alongside the premium tool, Star Health Insurance has also refreshed its BMI Calculator, giving users a quick way to check their body mass index, a metric commonly reviewed during underwriting. The company said pairing this check with the premium estimator gives users a more complete view of how their profile may factor into policy pricing before they formally apply.
Both tools remain free to use and do not require users to submit personal financial information to generate a result.
Part of a Broader Digital-First Push
The rollout is part of a wider effort by Star Health Insurance to expand self-service options across its website, in response to growing customer demand for tools that enable customers to research and plan coverage independently before purchase.
“Buyers today want clarity before they commit to a policy, not after,” a Star Health Insurance spokesperson said. “Upgrading these calculators is a direct response to that expectation. We want people to walk into a purchase, or a renewal, already understanding roughly what to expect, rather than finding out for the first time when the quote arrives.”
The company added that further updates to its digital planning tools are expected in the coming months as part of its ongoing technology roadmap.
