Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold Faces Harsh Durability Test
Samsung’s innovative Galaxy Z Trifold has encountered a formidable adversary in the form of a rigorous durability assessment conducted by renowned tech YouTuber JerryRigEverything. His bend tests have become an essential benchmark in the world of contemporary smartphones.
During his recent teardown and torture test, Jerry (whose real name is Zack Nelson) subjected Samsung’s inaugural multi-fold device to an intense array of trials: scratches, fire, dirt, and, most critically, bending.
While some outcomes were anticipated, the ultimate results proved to be far from encouraging. In essence, the Galaxy Z Trifold succumbed to pressure—quite literally.
It’s important to recognize that foldable devices have always traversed a precarious landscape. However, last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 demonstrated that modern foldables can withstand significant stress with relative resilience.
In stark contrast, the Trifold exhibits a less favorable narrative. Featuring three foldable panels and intricate hinge mechanics, it introduces a host of potential weaknesses—and indeed, it falters.
The scratch and fire evaluations yielded no alarming revelations, aside from reaffirming that foldable glass retains a degree of softness. Complications arose as dirt infiltrated the device.
Fragments of sand and debris swiftly lodged themselves in the hinges, resulting in disconcerting crunching noises every time the phone was manipulated. Such occurrences hardly inspire confidence in a device designed to undergo numerous folds each day.
The bend test was particularly revealing, as the Trifold collapsed under pressure akin to a low-quality lawn chair. When force was applied opposing the folds, the display failed instantaneously. Pixels disintegrated, sections of the screen darkened, and part of the hinge noticeably snapped.

This critique is particularly poignant given Samsung’s strong assertions regarding the Trifold’s hinge durability, boasting a capacity for up to 200,000 folds.
While this may indeed hold true under optimal conditions, JerryRigEverything’s test underscores that external force presents a significantly different challenge.
Regardless of these shortcomings, the Galaxy Z Trifold remains undoubtedly intriguing. Samsung has achieved the remarkable feat of producing a device with two folds, while Apple has yet to introduce any foldable technology.
Our firsthand experience with the device left us impressed by its design and ambition, even though it may not soon make its way to Canada. At present, the Trifold emerges as a daring first iteration—one that likely requires further refinement before becoming a staple in everyday life.
