Samsung Develops New Foldable Phone Featuring Rollable Screen, Anticipated Release in Early 2028

It has been over seven years since Samsung unveiled its Galaxy Z Fold and Flip series, marking the entry of the first commercially available foldable smartphones from a prominent brand. However, the intervening years have seen only incremental changes in design and technology.
Last year, the company introduced its most notable modification yet with the Galaxy Z Fold7 series, which emphasized a sleek and user-friendly design conducive to one-handed messaging.
Currently, Samsung is channeling its efforts into an avant-garde design that integrates a rollable display. The in-house division, Samsung Display, is poised to deliver this cutting-edge screen technology.

Samsung Display has been showcasing rollable screen technology at CES for several years, and while adaptations have appeared in the laptop market, a smartphone rollout remains eagerly anticipated.
During the 2023 CES event, Samsung Display unveiled the Flex Hybrid, an OLED panel demonstrating both foldable and slidable features.
Various prototypes were presented, allowing users to watch videos on a 10.5-inch display in a 4:3 aspect ratio or opt for a larger 12.4-inch screen in a 16:10 aspect ratio.
The prototype smartphone featuring the 10-inch rollable screen is nearing completion, with an official launch in the first half of 2028 expected, provided development proceeds smoothly.
In related news, Samsung is set to unveil the new Galaxy Z Fold8 series later this month, around July 22, which has generated considerable excitement among tech enthusiasts.
This year’s offerings are anticipated to include two foldable variants: the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, alongside the clamshell-styled Galaxy Z Flip8.
The standard Galaxy Z Fold8 is said to resemble a compact notebook, a design Apple is rumored to be adopting with its forthcoming iPhone Fold. This format promises enhanced ease of handling and operation, even with one hand.
The anticipated aspect ratio of 4:3 is expected to provide an optimal viewing experience for content across both the cover and the expansive display, akin to a small tablet.
While significant camera sensors are expected due to design considerations, it seems the smartphone will likely be equipped with dual sensors and an LED flash.
