Samsung is seemingly embarking on a significant reevaluation of its prominent device portfolio. Recent findings indicate a possible transformation in its smartwatch and tablet strategies.
Recent entries in an international certification database have unveiled that the tech giant is diligently working on several innovative products, notably a next-generation Galaxy Watch Ultra and a revamped Galaxy Tab S12 series.
On February 2, multiple forthcoming Samsung devices were detected within the GSMA certification database. Among the revelations are indications of a Galaxy Watch 9, a rebranded Ultra smartwatch, and two premium tablets categorized under the Tab S12 name—curiously, without a standard Tab S12 iteration.
A Definitive Successor to the Galaxy Watch Ultra
Focusing on wearables, the Galaxy Watch 9 is identified by model number SM-L345, whereas the second smartwatch, widely presumed to be the subsequent Galaxy Watch Ultra, has been assigned the identifier SM-L716. This latter device has garnered considerable scrutiny from industry analysts.
Past generations provide valuable insights. The Galaxy Watch 8 series employed assorted model numbers—SM-L320, SM-L330, and SM-L335—based on size and connectivity capabilities.
In stark contrast, Samsung’s Ultra models released in 2024 and 2025 shared the same model number, SM-L705, raising queries about their internal variances.
The emergence of a new Ultra model number signifies considerable importance. Experts view SM-L716 as an indicator that Samsung is gearing up to introduce a substantially distinct successor to its inaugural Ultra smartwatch, rather than merely a nominal update.
If validated, this would represent a noteworthy generational advancement for the Ultra series since its inception in 2024.
Galaxy Tab S12 Could Omit the Standard Model
The GSMA listings also suggest a pivotal transformation in Samsung’s tablet division. Two devices are recorded under the Galaxy Tab S12 label: Tab S12+ (SM-X846) and Tab S12 Ultra (SM-X946). Notably, there has been no registration of a standard Tab S12 model in the database thus far.
This denotes a marked departure from earlier iterations. In 2025, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Tab S11 alongside its Ultra counterpart.
The base Tab S11 utilized model numbers SM-X730 and SM-X736, while the Ultra variant appeared as SM-X930 and SM-X936, varying by connectivity options.
By potentially bypassing the entry-level model in the upcoming cycle, Samsung may be signaling a heightened focus on premium tablets, streamlining its offerings towards higher-margin devices.
Although certification listings do not guarantee impending product launches, they frequently reflect determinations made well into the development process.
While Samsung has yet to officially unveil any of these devices, the convergence of newly disclosed model numbers and the absence of a standard Tab S12 intimates a broader recalibration of the company’s wearable and tablet segments—one that emphasizes clearer distinctions and a more pronounced inclination towards high-end products.
