Samsung Accelerates Plans for Galaxy Z TriFold 2 Ahead of Original 2027 Timeline
Samsung has taken a bold step by expediting the launch of the Galaxy Z TriFold 2, moving it ahead of its previously established 2027 launch date.
This strategic pivot comes in the wake of Apple’s commercial debut of the iPhone Duo, compelling the South Korean tech giant to reinforce its presence in the competitive triple-screen market.
Manufacturing Initiatives: Emphasis on Durability and Reduced Weight
As per insights from Lanzuk, Samsung’s development direction aims to yield a Galaxy Z TriFold 2 that is not only thinner but also incorporates a significantly lighter and more robust architectural design.
Alongside this model, the company plans to unveil an expedited version of its anticipated slideable device, while intriguingly maintaining a similar price point of $2,899.
The inaugural Galaxy Z TriFold made its debut in South Korea in December 2025, subsequently launching in the United States in January 2026 at the same retail price of $2,899.
However, sales were abruptly halted three months later due to elevated production costs and the complexities of the internal hardware, relegating the initial release to a mere engineering showcase rather than a commercially viable product.
Everyone is very excited for this new short foldable phase but personally I can’t wait for the Galaxy Z TriFold2. An insanely huge foldable that actually improves its media experience by being wider yet still being tall, the best of both worlds. pic.twitter.com/VpyEJsN9eX

Increased Competition: The Impact of Huawei and Apple
Emerging challengers such as Huawei have entered the fray with the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design, featuring an inward-folding hinge and a formidable 10.2-inch display, establishing an alternative multi-screen solution.
Meanwhile, Apple’s foray into the foldable arena with the iPhone Duo has escalated market pressures on Samsung to highlight the viability of its existing foldable technologies.

The persistent retail price of $2,899 upholds the device’s status within the luxury sector, yet raises concerns regarding accessibility for the average consumer.
Despite structural improvements aimed at reducing weight, the retention of this price point could instigate consumer dissatisfaction if no adjustments are made.
The debut of the initial model revealed the challenges of transforming prototype devices into commercially viable products amidst high-volume demand.
