Samsung Introduces Enhanced Selfie Camera Technology in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide
Prominent leaker Ice Universe recently revealed intriguing visuals of the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s updated selfie camera innovations.
Notably, the punch-hole on the main display has been considerably diminished to a mere 2.5mm in diameter, a substantial reduction from the 3.7mm sensor present in the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Over the years, Samsung has consistently reduced the footprint of its foldable phone selfie cameras. The initial iterations of the Galaxy Z Fold series featured a cumbersome cutout that disrupted content display, which was later altered to an under-display camera that, unfortunately, compromised image quality.
Now, with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series, the brand is reverting to a physical punch-hole on the main screen, albeit with a markedly smaller presence. This design evolution aims to enhance the user experience while minimizing the impact on the display.
While Ice Universe has yet to disclose specific camera specifications, anticipation builds around whether Samsung can maintain the 10MP sensor used in the Fold 7 while successfully compressing its dimensions for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide Against Its Rivals
As the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Apple’s iPhone Fold vie for consumer attention, they face burgeoning competition from Huawei’s recently launched Pura X Max, which also showcases an ultra-wide silhouette.

Using official specifications, Ice Universe crafted a mockup juxtaposing the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide against the Huawei device, revealing visually similar attributes, yet distinct disparities.
The Samsung smartphone is set to be more streamlined both in its folded form (9.8mm versus 11.2mm) and while unfolded (4.3mm compared to 5.2mm).
This enhancement is likely attributable to Samsung’s slimming technologies that debuted with the Galaxy S25 Edge, which featured an advanced mounting system enabling closer component placement on the motherboard, in conjunction with an innovative heat management system and a downsized 200MP camera sensor.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is also expected to adopt a 4:3 aspect ratio, promising a more expansive display relative to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and fostering a tablet-like experience akin to video consumption. This choice places the display closer to the edge, a preference for many users. In contrast, rounded corners found on devices like the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold and the imminent iPhone Fold create an unappealing gap along the hinge side of the foldable devices.
