Oracle Unveils Cloud Innovation Studio as Founding Initiative of IMSA Labs
Oracle Cloud Innovation Studio emerges as the inaugural project within IMSA Labs, granting startups unprecedented access to live race operations, extensive telemetry, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, and one of the most rigorous testing environments worldwide.
In a significant announcement today, Oracle and the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) declared Oracle as the Founding Partner of IMSA Labs—a strategic platform fostering innovation and collaboration among the motorsport sanctioning body, automotive manufacturers, and technology firms.
Central to this alliance is the rollout of the Oracle Cloud Innovation Studio, a pioneering program aimed at accelerating startups from conceptualization to validated solutions by merging Oracle’s advanced cloud and AI technologies with IMSA’s live race operations and voluminous telemetry analytics.
“Motorsport has historically served as a crucible for innovation, and IMSA has long been a proving ground for manufacturers testing technologies that eventually reach consumers,” remarked John Doonan, president of IMSA.
With IMSA Labs, we are perpetuating that legacy by extending it beyond the confines of race vehicles to cultivate an innovation ecosystem.
This platform enables startups, technology trailblazers, manufacturers, and research institutions to innovate and validate next-generation solutions in one of the most arduous operational contexts globally.
We are excited to welcome Oracle as our Founding Partner and to inaugurate the Oracle Cloud Innovation Studio as the first collaborative initiative of IMSA Labs.
Operating from the IMSA paddock, Oracle Cloud Innovation Studio will serve as a live demonstration and development hub for participating startups.
These fledgling companies will design and fine-tune their solutions on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), leveraging the newest advancements in AI, cloud, and data technologies, all while measuring performance against the intense speed and complexity intrinsic to professional endurance racing.
“Real-world complexity accelerates innovation, and startups benefit immensely from developing solutions in such dynamic environments rather than stagnant simulated settings,” asserted Karan Batta, senior vice president of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
“As the founding partner of IMSA Labs, Oracle unifies the power, performance, and scalability of OCI with the exceptional operational milieu of IMSA, thereby furnishing startups with a unique trajectory to develop, validate, and showcase pioneering solutions in scenarios where every millisecond—and every decision—holds considerable weight.”
IMSA encompasses 18 global automotive manufacturers competing under unified regulations, generating millions of telemetry events over each race weekend.
This remarkable combination of live operations, engineering processes, edge conditions, distributed systems, and instantaneous decision-making creates an unparalleled proving ground—one that is typically unattainable in conventional labs, accelerators, or sandbox environments.
Startups engaged in this initiative can harness OCI to innovate and validate solutions across various high-impact domains, including:
- Adaptive Data Routing and Prioritization: Enhancing telemetry flow from car to pit wall to headquarters, particularly in environments constrained by RF, network, and satellite limitations.
- Cloud-Native Telemetry Ingestion and Replication: Processing structured vehicle and race operation data on OCI, ensuring accessibility across distributed teams.
- Real-Time Decision Engines: Evaluating live data streams to inform pit strategy, lap modeling, race simulations, and operational choices.
- AI-Assisted Operational Insights: Identifying patterns, revealing anomalies, summarizing intricate data, and recommending optimal actions across race operations.
- Fan-Focused Live Telemetry Experiences: Crafting digital engagements that connect fans to the race through live data visualizations, predictive insights, driver and vehicle metrics, and interactive storytelling.
The solutions forged within Oracle Cloud Innovation Studio aim to tackle operational challenges pervasive across diverse industries, such as managing high-volume streaming data, facilitating real-time decision-making, functioning reliably at the edge, and coordinating intricate distributed systems.
The technological frameworks validated in IMSA’s live racing landscape hold the potential for applicability across sectors requiring superior performance, resilience, and agility, including manufacturing, transportation, logistics, energy, telecommunications, and intelligent venues.
The International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) stands as North America’s premier sports car racing organization, sanctioning the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship—one of the world’s leading endurance racing series.

Featuring participation from 18 global automotive manufacturers, IMSA presents a world-class platform for competition, engineering innovation, and technology development, reaching audiences through live events, digital media, and global broadcast distribution.
