Leadership Transition at Nissan: Tiago Castro Appointed Senior Vice President
Nissan undergoes a significant leadership shift as it appoints its third top marketer in less than six months.
Effective January 9, Tiago Castro ascends to the role of Senior Vice President of U.S. Marketing and Sales for Nissan and Infiniti.
Currently, he serves as Vice President for Infiniti Americas, where he meticulously oversees the brand’s performance across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
His scope includes strategic direction, operations, retail network management, and both sales and marketing initiatives.
In his new capacity, Castro will spearhead marketing and sales efforts for the Nissan brand within the U.S., while simultaneously managing the Infiniti business across the American continents.
Allyson Witherspoon, Nissan’s Chief Marketing Officer, remains unaffected by these organizational changes and will report directly to Castro in his elevated position, as confirmed by a company spokesperson.
Castro’s appointment follows the departure of Michael Soutter, who briefly left Nissan only to return in September after Vinay Shahani resigned to accept a prominent marketing position at AT&T.
Nissan did not clarify whether Soutter was serving as an interim Chief Marketing Officer at the time of his reappointment.
“Mike is a strong and experienced leader within Nissan who brings a track record of success working with our dealer partners,” stated Christian Meunier, Chairman of Nissan Americas, during Soutter’s original announcement.
“As we continue to build momentum in the U.S., Mike is the right person to drive our efforts to enhance the Nissan and Infiniti brands, deliver great customer experiences, and grow our sales in a competitive market.”
On a broader scale, Nissan Group reported a marginal increase in total U.S. sales for the calendar year 2025, rising by 0.2% compared to the previous year. However, fourth quarter sales for the same year experienced a decline of 3.7% in comparison to the prior year.
Soutter was referenced in the recent press release, with no indication given regarding his forthcoming exit from the company.
Having joined Nissan North America in 2003, Castro boasts a wide-ranging background that encompasses research and development, product planning, program management, and marketing and sales. Prior to his current role, he closely collaborated with the Nissan dealer network.

“Tiago’s energy, extensive background, and commitment to excellence will help us continue to build momentum, grow our sales, and deliver outstanding customer satisfaction at Nissan and Infiniti,” Meunier stated in the release.
“We thank Mike for leading our marketing and sales efforts during an important transition, and I wish him the best as he heads back into retirement.”
Nissan has indicated that a successor to lead Infiniti will be announced at a later date.
