Apple Introduces Innovative Leasing Program Amid Anticipated Price Increases
Responding to looming price escalations, Apple has unveiled a novel approach for consumers to acquire its latest devices, including iPhones, Macs, iPads, and more.
The tech titan announced a leasing program that allows customers to pay monthly for a device that they may never fully own.
Overview of the Apple Upgrade Initiative
In their recent announcement, the Cupertino-based company presented the Apple Upgrade program as a means for customers to experience its products while ensuring continuous access to the latest models.
Structure of Apple Upgrade
Customers can select from a 12- or 24-month plan for devices like the iPhone or Apple Watch, while leasing terms for the iPad and Mac are set at two or three years.
At the conclusion of the contract, users have three choices: return the device, upgrade to a newer model, or purchase it outright with a single payment.
Details regarding the final payment amount remain unspecified, leaving potential clients uncertain about the exact costs involved in ownership.
Customer Insights
Karen Rasmussen, Apple’s Vice President of Online Stores, commented, “At Apple, our customers are at the heart of everything we do. We are excited that Apple Upgrade provides a more flexible payment option for both online and in-store customers.”
The company emphasized the lowest monthly payment options for its devices. While the specifics of lease durations tied to these prices remain unclear, indications suggest that longer plans are considerably more economical than shorter ones.
Cost of Leasing Apple Devices
- iPhone – $17.99
- Apple Watch – $11.99
- Mac – $24.99
- iPad – $11.99
The Impending Price Surge
The importance of this program is magnified by anticipated price increases across Apple’s product range. A shortage of RAM, affecting the entire technology sector, is likely to drive costs upward, impacting consumers directly.
Outgoing CEO Tim Cook recently informed the Wall Street Journal that while the company, recently valued at around $5 trillion, has absorbed rising memory costs thus far, some expenses will inevitably be passed on to the consumer. Cook lamented, “Unfortunately, price increases are unavoidable.”
Further Considerations
The introduction of the Upgrade plan marks the discontinuation of both the iPhone Upgrade Program and iPhone Payments within the United States. Current participants will have the opportunity to transition to a leasing arrangement upon their existing agreement’s expiration.

Customers will need to select one of three carriers: AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon, as pre-paid services are not eligible for this program.
In partnership with Klarna, the leasing initiative enables clients to manage their agreements via the provider’s app. A soft credit inquiry will be conducted during the leasing process.
