Lamar Institute of Technology Unveils LIT Online: Pioneering Flexible, Accessible, Career-Oriented Education

[Published on Friday, August 8, 2025]

Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) has launched LIT Online, a virtual educational platform meticulously crafted to offer students versatile, high-caliber academic pathways that seamlessly integrate into their distinct schedules and lifestyles.

With a portfolio of 16 fully online degree programs and five hybrid offerings, LIT Online caters to a diverse array of learners. From seasoned professionals and busy parents to fresh high school graduates, individuals can pursue LIT’s career-centric degrees and certificates without the necessity of setting foot on campus.

“We witnessed a remarkable 52 percent surge in online student enrollment, escalating from 1,203 in Fall 2022 to 1,833 in Fall 2024,” remarked Dr. Sid Valentine, President.

“In light of the burgeoning demand for accessible education, especially among adult learners, the establishment of LIT Online emerged as a critical initiative, enabling our students to attain the flexibility requisite for their success while upholding the same academic rigor and community support found in our traditional classrooms.”

LIT Online proffers a blend of asynchronous and hybrid courses, facilitated by Blackboard, the institution’s state-of-the-art learning management system. Students are afforded opportunities for interactive discussion boards, weekly assignments, and both live and recorded lectures, alongside support services that replicate the on-campus experience.

The hybrid programs ensure that at least 90 percent of instruction occurs online; however, they still incorporate a vital hands-on component, allowing for in-person instructor engagement. To further combat feelings of isolation, LIT Online students have access to the Virtual Quad—a dedicated space for peer interaction, community involvement, and an enriched digital campus atmosphere.

“As with LIT’s on-campus offerings, LIT Online programs are constructed to be affordable, aligned with workforce demands, and responsive to the shifting economic landscape of Southeast Texas,” stated Valentine. “The only distinction lies in the amplified accessibility that the online format affords to those unable to attend during conventional class hours.”

This initiative guarantees a supportive experience by featuring centralized avenues for admissions, registration, advising, and student resources. Students can benefit from virtual assistance through the Mary & John Gray Library, online tutoring, and student engagement services, all included at no supplementary cost in tuition.

Registration for the Fall 2025 semester is open until August 29, with classes commencing on August 25. For further details on LIT Online, please visit lit.edu/lit-online.
